Mixed crowd?

Mixed crowd?

I might be doing a bunch of gigs for graduation parties in the next few weeks, and some of them are going to be all ages kind of crowds. What do you guys usually play at events like that? I have no experience with this sort of thing, everything else I’ve done has been big electro parties.

top 40’s
classic rock
see hot 100 billboard charts

really depends on the crowd and the general age/type of vibe.

have sign up list for requests.

Yeah, I’ve got that sort of stuff as ideas, but…I’m really scared of just going in cold and being totally fucked for song selection. Hm.

seat of your pants is okay…

You really can’t plan for a crowd like that. I usually play what I think the majority of the crowd will like, while sprinkling in other genres to keep everyone happy. Take lots of requests.

^ how the fuck did you sneak in 5 posts? now i gotta go on a deletion spree, grr

Well I know I can’t plan much, but I have literally no starting playlist, nothing. I just need something to jump off of, you know? I don’t know if I’m good enough to totally just go on the seat of my pants, especially since my collection isn’t really geared toward this sort of thing.

email the people your doing the grad party for and ask for what deffinately they would like to hear… i got a HUGE email for the one i did on sat (was supposed to play for 4 === ended up playing for 6)

dont be afraid to ask… plus check out the R&B/Funk charts on beatport… lotsa good stuff that goes over well with older/younger crowds alike.

skrillex bro…with some david guetta and maybe tiesto for when shit gets too real for them

skrillex? No fucking CHANCE I’m blasting “Kill Everybody” at 80 year olds.

The funk suggestion is great though, nes. Thanks man, some of the classics look like they’ll work well and I wouldn’t have found em otherwise.

i did a middle school dance. electro remixes of top 40 shit. brought in some dubstep. most of the time they all just wanna sit around and talk. QUEEN!

Yeah, I’ve done middle and high school dances before…I’m mostly worried about the older crowd though. It’s sort of a challenge to have music that appeals to everyone. :disappointed:

Can’t go wrong with classic rock and hits of the 80’s

Here’s a little secret: http://tunein.com/

Go to your towns popular station and get the songs they are playing. That site contains up to the minute playlists of about a gazillion radio stations. It saved my ass on a few occasions when I had to do some crap gigs.

That link is awesome, bigbeatzz. Thanks so much man, that looks super useful.

Jesus that’s awesome! Omgs I wish I had that link like years ago. Great post! Thanks .

I did two grad parties this month… And both of them I played PLENTY of skrillex, Rusko, top 40, tiesto, etc. With these, remember it’s not about the old people or little kids… It’s about the grad and his/her friends… Just make sure your music is clean and you read the crowd. Odds are most people won’t be dancing. And btw @aligned… We Definitely played kill everybody at one of the parties… Hahahaha

Ive done a number of sweet sixteens and a couple christmas parties with ages from 14-30 yo… definitely hit up billboard top 100, old school classic hip hop, jiggy era hip hop, 80s and also some bmore… like that mister postman remix… diplo and major lazer joints and ya brostep shit too… the kids love that… get ready to handle requests too, if u got a internet connection you are golden, if not u gotta be ready to turn people down… they will flood u!

I DJed my aunts retirement party and bumped into that site while looking for playlists. I find it freaking amazing, why didn’t I think of it!?!
