Tried it, wasn’t that impressed with it. The interface was clunky, it couldn’t detect the key on some of my songs, most of which were inaccurate, others couldn’t be processed period.
Hey, it’s free, so I can’t bitch too much about it lol, but either way for the person who isn’t too keen on spending money on MIK, it’s a great alternative.
I don’t know about being better than MIK though, I’d like to see statistical evidence proving that, otherwise that’s purely heresay.
Ah nice, totally overlooked that. As I thought, looks like RE2 is lacking behind MIK as far as accuracy, but whatever, being a free program one shouldn’t complain about that lol. Personally my gripe about it is the interface, I personally don’t like it but who knows, I used it quite a few versions ago so maybe they improved it.
As far as Yakov goes, honestly doesn’t really effect my outlook on him - I paid money for a product which helps me out, and really that’s all I care about. He’s also more than level headed and fair towards his happy and unhappy customers alike, so his character is already spoken for.
I’ll leave the griping about the copyright issues and EULA to people who have a lot of time, a desire to write, and a blog to share. Kudos though to Suicide Dive for perusing something he believes strongly in.
And then I use Media Monkey to rewrite all my ID3 tags based on the file name like so,
Artist - Track - Genre - BPM
So essentially, the Key of the track is being written in the Genre field, and then all I have to do is organize my tracks by the Genre column in Traktor and boom, all done.
I’ve been using RE2 to write the the “Key” tag and I’ve also included the “Key” column in Traktor so I can sort by Key all done with minimal fuss.
Those using MiK v 2.5 (which I assume you acquired from obscurity of the www) I tried that version but it doesn’t allow you to write to the Key tag, but 4.0 does.
Those that are not writing at all should also check to make sure some of your files are not read-only…
As far as accuracy and price RE2 works great for me. I use it purely to detect keys, drag them in, detect key and close making sure it can’t write to anything other than the Key tag in the process…
