I do mobile DJ’ing and even after 14 years I’m amazed at what surprises can pop up, and the only saving grace is being prepared, and being a quick thinker. If anything really does F*ck up, don’t take it too hard, just learn from it. I had some really bad gigs that taught me some valuable lessons about only renting my gear from reliable places and making sure I double check that the guest list hasen’t doubled because I showed up without enough sound reinforcement and 1 one of the speakers crapped out on me.
In terms of sound, it’s better to have too much than not enough. In terms of the amp, I would suggest to go with powered speakers next time. With a traditional setup it doesn’t matter how many speakers you have, because if your amp craps out you’re screwed. With powered speakers, if they’re loud enough and one just happens to blow, I doubt anyone will even notice. I use Yorkville NX55P’s, and have a general rule with them…For a sit down dinner like a wedding, 1 speaker for every 5 people (including my monitor, which I turn towards the crowd during dinner). At 550watts rms, and a reported maximum 131db of spl, they’ve never let me down.
Well that wasnt what i planned. it was good but there werent enough people. i brought way too much stuff for such a small gathering…infact it was a gathering, i dont think it deserves to be called a party…but hey it was fun and i enjoyed it. next time ill make sure more than 14 people come…i was thinking it would be like a 30+ party but nope. only 14 people. but it was cool and i got to see and show off to my friends haha they always hear me talking at school about it and finally seen it. i got a lot of people saying they loved it i just hope the next one will be a huge party…oh and here is the finally… I was blasting it soo loud the cops came that shows me a job well done haha everyone was like"louder, louder" and im like" Why not?" haha lol.
sounds like a blast mate. the main thing is you put on a good show regardless of the turnout (remember that). heck, some of the best parties i’ve done have been the smaller ones. onward and upwards
Well thanks everyone for all the positive feedback. i really enjoy this website and all the people who give me tips, suggestions, and help.its real nice having someone there to tell me all these great things for the " DJ world".
