cat defense.
networking with club owners/people
computer/programming skill
electronic knowledge for troubleshooting etc
being able to stay level headed in high-stress situations
There’s heaps of little things I use/need every weekend
The patience of a Saint.
This cannot be stated enough. It’s so important to be patient while you hone your skills and network to get gigs. In a world of instant gratification fewer and fewer people are willing to put the time and effort in in order to get what they want.
realistically, if your goal is to get booked, all you need to do is be the most social guy and kiss everybody’s ass. Not just other industry people, but the actual randoms at events. Half the DJs I see get booked, get booked because they are friends with all the people at the event, so they’ll show up for their set, and the DJ looks like they’re killing it because they’ve got the crowd.
A liver of steel.
Immunity to cocaine and other fun, I mean illegal, powders.
ability to get ones wang sucked while still concentrating on the mix.
Organization skills.
the ability the be rigorous when it comes down to tell people to gtfo of the dj booth or place their drinks in the booth no matter if they are friends or not.
the ability to identify quality tunes that are not peak time bangers, as well as knowing when to play them ![]()
Good track selection.
Being friendly helps also.
getting bitches
Taste. Shouldnt be a surprising requirement, but quite often lacking.
The ability to post on forums when you should be practicing is a skill NONE of us should have…
Im stuck right now on mixing. If i had more motivation or a lead on what to do next… Like a real life tutor then i would be on it 24/7 but i have no real life dj friends and learn everything with trial and error.
If i can’t make a solid transition then I’m kind of like … ugh fuck.
My music only gets 30 plays on sound cloud and nobody leaves a comment. Kind of depressing naaww mean?
did you really just try to hijack his thread?
yeah of course thats my style naww mean?
Common sense!!!
