krk rokits seem to be getting good reviews…
I hear nothing but good things about the krk Rokit series.
you can find some good deals on ebay.
my next pair of monitors will be the Rokit 5s with a RP-10s sub.
You can’t go wrong with the KRK’s. I work with a pair of RP5’s in my apartment. They get plenty loud when you need them too and the sound quality is great. If you’re looking for some more bang I would suggest the RP8’s (these take up a lot more space though).
Good luck!
I’ve heard mixed about the KRK’s… but I think the best place to start is a budget. Then we can really break down what’s good. ![]()
Got a pair of Event ASP8’s and I couldn’t be happier.
They have a full sounding low to mid range great for hip-hop.
a few things to consider as mentioned…
budget
the type of music you will be producing / remixing
will these speakers also be used for dj sets at home
will the speakers need to travel
what kind of connections do you need for your sound card
passive or active speakers
I myself will be getting some 2nd hand monitors soon from a mate who is upgrading…

If your looking for passive monitors for music production Alesis MKII Passive Monitors are supposed to be excellent.
If money is no object, go for the Mackie HR series.
They’re bloody brilliant. My friend uses them for his professional mixes and these active monsters are the bomb!
(We also use them as we’re busy finalising our own projects.)
There’s such a huge range of monitors for a broad budget that it would be very helpful to know how much you want to spend. It also depends on what kind of music you’re mixing, as different monitors have different strengths.
Generally if you don’t have a lot of money, I’m a big fan of Events and KRKs (though I prefer the old KRK V6s to the newere Rokits). If money is no option, Genelecs are amazing. If you can spend a bit but ain’t rich, Mackie HR 824s are the flattest, cleanest monitors in their price range that I’ve ever heard.
I kind of agree with everyone here. after producing for many years and testing out many monitor pairs. The best lower cost options:
events, krks
and if you can afford them get a pair of 8" genelecs with a inexpensive sub.
Then you will be very happy. I have the 4" genelcs for travelling and even they are sooo nice![]()
Awesome, cheers for all your guys help (<3 DJtt!).
I don’t want to spend too much, mostly for remixing/production/mastering, but would be nice to use them to do sets at home.
I play mostly electro, breaks, DnB n Dubstep (which i would need a sub or 5 for anyway).
I checked out some Alesis 5" and 6" active monitors (cant remember model) which were quite nice. Theres a massive price (and size) difference between the two and was wondering how much difference it makes to sound other then max volume between 5/6/8" models.
the krk rokits seem to have recently dropped in price by $50 USD at various retailers.
I went by a local guitar center and bought a pair of RP5s for $100 per speaker.
online music retailers seem to have the same price.
for $200 these sound amazing in my small apartment.
Wow, here you have to pay 300€ for a pair of RP5s. Probably importing will be cheaper than buying here o.O
136€ + shipping + 19% tax.
omg
He’s not kidding.
go to your local stores and check what they have. listen to them all. then compare them to the gear listed here. remember that alot of this is personal preference.
for example, i have used jbl eon 15" in the past on multiple occasions in alot of different enviroments and have been pretty happy for the quality, especially for the money. but i know ALOT of people that absolutely hate them. so listen to gear for yourself, decide for yourself what is really worth the money you spend.
