Hi, i am new to djing and have had a look about this site.
i want to be a laptop dj. i have seen this Numark Mixtrack Pro USB DJ Controller With Soundcard. and use the traktor software. Does anyone think this is ok to start out with?
It’s for sure a great first controller. It has all of the basic features that you would need to get started. Also the fact that it has a built in soundcard is a big plus. One less piece of gear means one less spot where the wiring can go wrong. It’s also at a fair price, and has a large range of possibilities that you can take it.
If for some reason you don’t want to get this one, and plan on getting a higher quality controller, a VCI-100 is a good jump off point. Even though they are no longer in production, it’s not too hard to find one, especially in the Buy/Sell section of this forum. There is also a huge database of mappings available for the VCI, and it’s probably going to last longer than the Mixtrack Pro. However, if you plan on just testing the waters first without really dishing out the dough, the Mixtrack Pro is great and will fulfill every need that you have. On the other hand if you plan on taking DJing further than a hobby, the VCI may be a better fit. As I always say, the choice is yours, so don’t let my words decide for you, I’m just hoping to guide you in the general direction and you have to make the final choice. I hope you enjoy whichever controller you get, and know that they both are great at what they do.
Mixtrack is a nice entry level controller. This is the first I suggest to people 'round.
Not sure of their built-in soundcard quality, but like you said, to begin it’s probably the best choice.
A safe sound quality combo would be a Mixtrack (not Pro) + NI Audio 2 DJ. This way, if one day you buy another controller without built-in soundcard (there’s plenty of them) you’ll still have a really good sound card + a spare controller.
and also what laptop shold i get reading that everyone seens to have macbook pro but they cost alot. i have a sony vaio cr just now which is almost 2 years old.
Really any laptop will run TP2 with the right settings. A macbook pro is preferred as they tend to have less problems with the software, but as long as you don’t overhaul the settings in TP2 it should run on almost anything.
It has two stereo 1/4" jacks. One for Channel A and one for Channel B. Usually confirgured in Traktor (or whatever software) for master output to one channel and monitor to the other.
If I were you I’d get the mixtrack and the audio 2 dj (that’s what I got myself) because the built in soundcard is not very reliable. Further more, the only main difference between mixtrack and mixctrack pro is the soundcard. (100$ extra). With that 100 dollars you can get the audio 2 dj (which is amazing and won’t let you down). Also, if you need speakers and the full set, (haven’t really tested this out but it looks decent) you should get the NUMARK MIXTRACK COMPLETE DJ SYSTEM PACKAGE W VIRTUAL DJ which includes the mixtrack, headphones, speakers+amp, all cables and VDJ for 495$. I do strongly sugges you either buy Traktor pro 2 or traktor pro instead of VDJ.
