New Mixer

New Mixer

Hi,

OK I am oldschool - been bedroom DJ’ing for 20 years on 1210’s and a crappy Numark mixer.

I want to get a new mixer and the main points are:

  • I use only vinyl (mostly from 90/91/92) - no computers hooked up and tbh I have no idea about controllers etc
  • I blend mix but am thinking of having a go at scratching
  • I am thinking of getting a CDJ - as much as the only vinyl I don’t have is stuff which costs a few quid so am thinking I can just use mp3 for those tunes (although I’d love to keep buying vinyl…its just the cost)
  • I’d like EQ and some FX’s/filters to play with
  • I want to start recording my mixes as I’ve not done it before
  • I mix in the headphones so a master cue is spot on

Now I like the look of a DJM-350 as it has the inbuilt USB but why the hell are they nearly 300 quid more than the 250?! Paying over £400 new for one seems a bit steep.

I’m not sure about buying second hand - I am wary I might fall into a trap of getting a “deal” then it not working out (get something which fails in the short term).
Budget … well at a stretch £500 (I’m in the UK) but obviously dont want to throw money at things I wont use - midi functionality for example

Any help would be great as I keep going round in circles looking at A&H, Denon, Pioneer…

Thanks

How important are FX or filters to you? If you can live without them, the Ecler Nuo 2.0 is a great option.

One thing the DJM 350 has that most mixers lack is the ability to record right onto a USB stick.

Hi

thanks for the replies

I am thinking it would be nice to play with FX but I’ve done without for 20 years…it would be nice though.

The UBS was what jumped out but reading around I could use an rca/usb converter into my laptop…but its slightly more hassle I guess…but i like the 350 - it just seems alot of cash

you can look at the xone 23’s if you are on a budget

Dude, get the 350 it is a really sweet little mixer, if you only need two channels.

Good simple EFX, pioneer sound quality, good headroom.

thanks for all the replies

I’m thinking the 350 is for me - now I need to decided if I go second hand or buy brand new

It only has a Master effect so if, for instance, you filter on channel 1, channel 2 will also filter. I had the 350. It was annoying.

lol i mean you gotta take the good with the bad, the OP has certain requirements and he wants a solid mixer. Honestly I’m pretty sure no mixer company will ever make the “perfect mixer”, every mixer had that one little negative thing you don’t like about it. Pretty smart…they will sell mixers forever if they keep leaving out little important features. hehe

DJM 400 is the better choice, and cheaper. My 2 cents.

The Allen & Heath Xone:23 is a good suggestion.

Much like with computer parts, there’s two adages to remember:

  • Buy cheap, buy twice
  • You get what you pay for

Sure, you can get a cheap mixer, but it’ll be reflected in the build quality. The only exception to that rule that I know of is the DJ-Tech DIF-1S, which is great for the price.

Reloop IQ2 Midi… its the mixer dj angelo uses in his tutorial videos

I’m all over the place with this - I think I should need to make a decision and move on.

But can I ask one more - does anyone have ant experience of the Stanton m.207 ?

I have to say one thing…I’ve looked at a lot of reviews and tbh I dont see myself as being a big FX user - as I am using old house/rave tunes from the early 90’s I’m not sure using FX with those will work - I like the tunes for what they are - maybe an odd time

But then I havent had FX available so maybe when I get them I’ll change!

I think its between the Xone 23c and the DJM-350

I can’t believe no-one has mentioned the Behringer DDM4000 or any of teh Behringer NOX mixers?

For a bedroom/hobby DJ, those should be top of the list for cost vs features.

I’d pick the 23c over the 350 (fx on master channel only? WTF good is that to anyone???) - but I’d rather have either of the Behringers above.

xone everytime for me, I have a Pioneer at the moment and will upgrade soon to a xone

Sound quality is better than enything else I’ve heard

I was going to pull the trigger on the Xone then found this - Allen & Heath's Xone:23C [Review & Video] - Passionate DJ..

Quote…“My other complaint came in when I brought in a vinyl record on the right channel. The music was very quiet. Even when I turned the gain knob all the way to 100%, it was barely touching 0db (the manual says to play between -6 and +6 on this particular mixer). I realized that the record I had chosen was from 2000 and might be a touch quieter, so I picked up a brand new record and put it on the table with the same result. The fact that I’d be struggling to play particularly quiet pieces of wax (like some of my very old records from the 70s-80s) concerned me a bit.”

Not ideal what with me being a 100%

Then I read about low cure volumes on the NOX-404

And the DJM-350 price is taking the p1ss I know

But…dv247 has a 30 day return thing so I might chance it with them and see

As someone who has owned the DJM 350, don’t buy it. The effects system will drive you mad. Go for the Xone 23.

Plus the Xone 23 is a 2+2 channel. You can go either regular 23, which is cheaper than the 23C (built in soundcard)

I’m trying this again as I posted a while ago and its not appeared…

I found this review - Allen & Heath's Xone:23C [Review & Video] - Passionate DJ

which says…

“My other complaint came in when I brought in a vinyl record on the right channel. The music was very quiet. Not really what i want to read as I am pure Vinyl.

This is why I would buy the regular 23. No dumb shit. I can hook up my Audio 10 and run Traktor through that. I have a 23 coming in next week, I’ll check out the vinyl issue myself since it has me curious.
