New Setup

New Setup

I’m planning on upgrading my setup from a VCI-100SE and an Audio 2 to a pair of Kontrol X1s and an external mixer. Now I’m trying to figure out which soundcard to get and the more I research, the more I confuse myself. This is going to sound like such a noob question but if I’m going to have a four-channel mixer, can I use either an Audio 4 or Audio 6 or do I have to use an Audio 8 or an Audio 10?

Either the Audio 8 or the Audio 10 will be what you want because they can both put out 4 x Stereo pairs.

Some one on here was trying to use the audio 4 using 4 mono pairs, an if my memory is correct he said that the only difference was the loudness, no quality issues.
That means that you could use your Audio 2 with 4 mono outputs to a 4 channel mixer if you don’t want the option of timecode.
Hope that helps.

Yea I’m not going to be using timecode, just the X1s controlling 4 decks internally. Do you remember how much of a difference in loudness it was? Like something manageable where I would just have to turn up the gains a little or was it a lot quieter?

from memory it wasnt too much of a difference.
Y dont you plug 1 rca into your speakers and them two and hear the difference ?

Loudness AND a stereo field. Sorry but a stereo signal is always better than a mono feed IMO, especially if you play anything heady or trippy.

That’s exactly why I’m gonna find a used Audio 8. I like stereo.

I’m just curious…what mixer are you gonna get?

if your not gonna super splurge ona mixer, recommend checking out a Xone 42 with two X1’s and an Audio 8. I had that set up for a while and it sounded AWESOME. Traktor Effects + A&H EQ’s and Filters = win.

I’ve been thinking about getting a xone42 and an x1 and selling my s4..

Good choice

Maybe so but if you play live most club mixers are set to mono, dont think ive ever come across one set to stereo

If you’re a bedroom DJ mixing for sport, stereo is the way to go. If you’re going to gig out, most clubs set their output to mono so your output doesn’t matter quite at much.

EDIT: ^ oh yeah, what he said

Oh god I wish I had the money to spend on a Xone 42. All of my top 3 dream mixers are Allen and Heaths. If you wanna send me one, I’m all for it!

I’m most likely going to get a Behringer NOX606. I think the DDM4000 is a great mixer and I’m sure Behringer is only going to get better. And before anyone knocks my mixer choice, I would like to add that I am a starving college student without a high-paying job.

Haha I feel you on that one!

My advice is:

You don’t need to buy the audio interface first.

Try out Audio 2 with 4 mono outs, you can do 4 channel external mixing with an Audio 2

Buy your mixer first, try it and then if you find it low or bad in quality, buy an Audio 8 or 10. But if you don’t scratch you will pay and not use a lot of it’s functionalities.

I would look to M-Audio Profire 610 (Firewire 4 stereo outs interface)

I asked the exactly same question to a guy in the same position as you are right now:

“Good luck and try to give us some feedback on the quality of audio and the loudness of them playing on mono instead of stereo, please
Maybe you can measure it by using one channel on mono with only one RCA and one channel on stereo with two rcas, just for comparation. Can you feedback you general feeling of the output?”

"I did as you told me to do, and with the deck is mono There’s only a slight decrease in volume, not so embarrassing. with my hercules and my Kontrol One is great, I created special mapping for my controller and it works in 4 deck . "

Maybe you can ask some more questions to this guy if you are still in doubt…

He has trully gone to the mono route

You can try the same, just find a dude with an dual channel mixer, disconnect one cable from channel 2 of it, put the channel in mono at traktor and listen the difference between channel 1 and 2 on your own system.

Keep in mind that the beringer has an astronomical chance of leaving you needing another mixer fairly soon, and having a horrid resale value. Their products (as it seems you know) are pure crap in every aspect.

Well for the price they’re not too bad, as shown by the DDM4000. I know in the grand scheme of things that they’re not the best mixers out there but I can afford it and it works for me.

Another question, how would I plug my Audio 2 into the mixer? Output A into channel 1 and output b into channel 3?

Every single person that had a DDM4000 says that it’s very different from any other mixer from behringer, you should search more before tell something so generalistic about a specific product.

I doubt you will need any other mixer so soon, if you are using in home or house parties I think that it will be more then be enough and will give all the flexibility that you will need to simulate every hardware that you could cross on a DJ Booth…

for me, DMM4000 is the best companion for a DJ’s bedroom and period
