New turntables

New turntables

So i started mixing about a month or 2 again, and my brother recently got the technic 1200’s for a really good price, 200 dollars combined. But what i need to know is what to buy for it. I am currently in need of a cartridge and a needle for a decent price, can you guys help point me in the direction of a good needle and cartridge for a good price with decent quality? I prefer them to be under 100$ each but will spend more if needed. Thanks any other information about what to buy or tips for making these turntables as best as possible would be appreciated.

I was always a fan of the Ortofone Concorde/Nightclub needles but beware, they WILL tear up your vinyl. May not be an issue if you are using timecode. Back in the day though I remember specifically wearing out the cuepoints in records with those suckers…

This has been mentioned here and in other forums…

Shure M44-7 - the best all-around cart and needle.

i pretty much always used shure 447’s or 44G’s… the 447’s are more suited to scratching, while the 44G’s are suited to mixing with less focus on scratching

both highly recommended

m44-7s + 1

I’m using the old style stanton 505 SK II cartridge with the D-5100 SK II stylus, and they perform perfectly for me, and they are amazingly cheap.

Granted, I’m using serato, so record burn isn’t a big worry. That said, my control vinyl are functioning as well as ever, and that’s using straight tonearms and scratching frequently.

just my 2 cents

+1 for the stantons. Never been a fan of concorde styles carts.

Thanks for the replys, sorry for not looking before asking. Will definitely check this out.

Haha okay im sorry, one last question. I actually have the technic 1210’s instead of 1200’s. I’m assuming its the same if i use the m44-7’s on the 1210’s?

no difference. the only difference between 1200s and 1210s is the colour.

Shure M447’s FTW!
