in the next few months I am going to buy some new turntables. all these high torque motors look cool but witch is the most durable? no one knows weather any of them will last 20 years like a 1200mk2. I like the pioneer plx 1000 but it does not have all the features of a Stanton str8.150 or audio technica ATLP1240. the Stanton and audio technica have the brake and start adjust witch I don’t think the pioneer even has. I want a turntable ware I can just switch from phono to line. I like the Stanton because it has no ground. you know what though the audio technica has a USB port. witch should I get?
I am also looking on any in put about straight or curved tone arms?

I need a turntable mostly for spinning minimal house but I do want to do some scratching. I would be using them with a trakror A6 and traktor pro 2. I need a professional turntable, they are at my level. i should have enough budget. yah i want to spin minimal house on something with a lot of torque and accurate pitch that is built well. what do you think i should get?
the main reason i want a high torque motor is that you can stop the record with your hand and the platter will keep moving. it makes cueing way better. often i throw my records in right when let them go.
It depends if you care about wow and flutter. The only real advantage the Tech 12s have is they are still superior in W&F compared to all of the Hanpin OEM tables like the AT1240.
I have the AT240s and the W&F can be seen on the pitch readout in Traktor, but its very little drift in practice and inaudible.
my old 1200mk2’s that i used to use actually had more wow and flutter then my new Stanton T.92USB’s. they were old 1200mk2’s, the pitch fader on both of them had 2 zero’s. have you tried a Stanton 150? can you compare it to the audio technical 1240?
I have a set of str8.150’s and I swear by them. The torque on these things is godlike (so much so that they’ve ripped out my hair on more than a few occasions) The pitch is spot on and they are built like a tank! I forget the exact weight but they are close to 50lbs each.
the T.92 is a good turntable you can lock tracks together with it. it does not have a tone arm lever or tone arm height adjust. if I got a professional turntable I would have a better tone arm assembly for better sound and operation. often when you need to stop the record you end up stopping the whole platter. you have to toss your records in. when you push the record back and forth to aim at the beat sometimes the needle skips because the platter is stopped. with both my t.92 sometimes the platter will kick out at you. so I would be happy to have something with a strong motor. something I noticed is that if I got sweat or water on my hands my hands grip the record better and its not really a problem. I know that as you get better you grip the deck better. the T.92 does not have a tracking light. basically a better motor and tone arm is what I want for better dj’ing
TBh most of those problems can be fixed with practice and technique. You shouldnt be stopping the platter with your touches, regardless of the motor.
I have the AT120s, and think they are amazing for the price. They are still Hanpins though, so youll have the same problems to overcome with practice. The motor has plenty of torque, but is very easy to stop, you need to develop a lighter touch.
If the needle is skipping when you are finding a beat, then either your touch is way too heavy, or your turntables are setup very badly.
Work on getting your touch as light as possible, and check the tonearm weight and cartridge tracking.
The 120s have target light, height adjust, tonearm lever, 33/45/78, quartz lock, and USB/Phono.
I think they are great for the price. If someone cant be a good DJ on these, they wont be on anything.
The reason to go to the 1240s are for adjustable start/stop and torque.
well you can manipulate T92’s so they never skip. they are actually really good. for example just touching it with two fingers at the side of the record(on or the side). I am not really a hand masher its more that my hands are slippery so to grip them I have to push harder. after you play 3 or 4 records it goes away. what I said earlier is what would happen if you try to force it. I tried a pair of st.150’s at a coffee shop a few years ago and the platter never stopped. just so you know I spin with my middle finger and either finger next to it to touch the record and I never touch the side of the platter.

yah i decided to go with stanton str8.150’s so this thread is useless. again I want a proper tone arm assembly for sound quality and stability and a nice motor that I can absolutely cue with. the pioneer plx 1000 did not have the features and the audio technica ATLP1240 is the same price as the Stanton str8.150. I picked the Stanton because its becoming a industry standard.
