What the f*ck to i do if i bget to a gig and they use XLR’s from the speakers?
Do i go through their mixer or? how to i do this?

Can you explain it a little bit more? i take the xlr from the speakers to their mixer .. and then what?
Take the RCA or Jack outs on the S4 and plug them into a free channel in the mixer. The XLR will run from the mixer master output to the speakers.
So it will work lika an adapter?
basically. either that or you could get TRS - XLR adapters, but plugging into the mixer is easiest.

yup. Just make sure you plug into a line input on the mixer and not a phono, and that the mixer channel has the appropriate line input selected. Take a DJM-800 for example, each channel has up to 3 inputs associated with it (phono, line, digital), so if you plug in and no sound comes out that’s probably why.
Thanks! They’re using DJM800 there but i think they have RCA’s or XLR’s from the speakers.
So i can plug them directly in to my S4!

What is important to think about?
You really don’t need (and probably shouldn’t) to do anything with they’re speakers or they’re connections. If they have an DJM 800 you just need to plug into one of the channels on the mixer. If they’re all full unplug one of the CDJ"s and plug your S4 into that channel. After that turn that channel up on the mixer and you won’t need to touch it the rest of the night.
If for some reason you don’t have access to their mixer and have to plug the speakers into your S4 you’ll need two XLR to TRS adapters.

Just plug those into the S4 main outs and then their speaker cables. Don’t forget that your software and hardware volume are separate so you may need to set the software volume lower that what you think is right, mines at -8 usually. Then you can adjust the hardware volume to suit. while you’re there DO NOT GO INTO THE RED on any meter.
Oh, and you should never really use the RCA’s for anything but home use.

Always have on standby, and use them (only) for direct hook-up to my Wharfedale Titan 15A’s. The adapter is a ‘stereo’ TRS, but the supplied NI cable is a ‘mono’ TRS. I know this ‘doesn’t matter’, but why so? Is it beacause the output/female (jack) or SIGNAL is balanced?

There’s no difference between a stereo TRS and a mono TRS. They’re both 3 core, Tip-Ring-Sleeve connectors.
The difference is in the signal you send, as you say, balanced or unbalanced. Unbalanced stereo going down a TRS cable needs a left, a right and a ground, and balanced mono needs a hot, a cold and a ground. Hence balanced needing 2 TRSs and unbalanced needing one.
RCA = ReallyConnectAs a last resort.
