NI Maschine vs. NI Kontrol X1

NI Maschine vs. NI Kontrol X1

Hello DJTT,

I currently was just about to buy the kontrol x1 but then i saw the maschine in action both live and in production…

what do you think I should buy

what are you gonna use it for? I think they both awesome — I personally looked into both and realized for my style I wouldn’t use a maschine to its full potential and could do just as much with alot less. I have X1’s

They are totally different devices at two completely different price points.

For the price of the Maschine i think you could buy like 3x X1’s

Edit: 2x X1’s - my bad

So true. Maschine is 600 and X1 is 200 bucks.

Maschine is cool for djing, but I think intended more for production, and the X1 is pure DJs.

Well they are selling the maschine for 500$ which is 2 x1’s but I have seen richie hawtin and dubfire use the maschine in their set-up which I thought I would use it for djing and production

But either way I’m going to add one of them into my set-up
I already have 2 cdjs to control decks a & b

With the X1’s you can control just about every feature inside of traktor. I think it would be a great addition “for DJing” to your current set up on your sig. It’s not a big piece of equipment.

ive seen the vids of hawting and dubfire using maschine to process effects, and hooked up to another computer. Me personally I’m not there yet, I would think you could do lots of ableton control for those purposes with a less expensive controller (APC).

I’m not familiar enough with maschine and its production software, but I’ll tell you the X1’s make a GREAT addition to a traditional DJ set up. Not sure what you are using now to scroll for tracks, set loops, controll effects, etc?

I’m guess you might just do those functions on your hard ware (effects on the 800, loops on the CDJ’s, etc)?

I also use my djm 800’s midi to control some of traktor effects buy I’m still thinkin of what to purchase because in a way the maschine is a 2 in 1

yeah I see what your saying. chances are you could map everything an X1 does to maschine and still have the maschine for other purposes. More buttons = more options also. It’s just bigger and more expensive.

I don’t think you’ll get anything “more” from the X1, its just a smaller, cheaper and better layed out for DJing.

Yea right now the things that are makin me think more is
X1 is cheaper. Maschine more $
X1 fits in flush. Maschine has more control

But you can buy 2 x1s for 1 maschine -_-

you could probably have the equivalent controls of 2 X1s and more on ONE maschine
Its got 11 encoders and a hell of a lot of buttons
plus you get the production software and a ton of samples

I think the Maschine is more value, which is why I got it

@faeruithir. so do you use the maschine to control traktor & do you also use the production part?? I’m just wondering how you like it to see what I should get..

@haze324. You said: —" I personally looked into both and realized for my style I wouldn’t use a maschine to its full potential and could do just as much with alot less."

–what do you mean when you said you could do just as much with a lot less??

Sorry with all the questions just want to make the best desicion

Production is not something I have looked into yet. At the time I had(still have) a VCI-100 and trigger finger. I also had my original TT 1200’s that I wasn’t using at all. I was considering either sticking with the VCI and adding something else for hotcues, decks c&d, and effects (this is how I used the trigger finger) — but I also wanted to get a quality 4 channel mixer to use with or without my 1200’s. The X1’s were a perfect fit. I figured a maschine would be overkill for what I was going to use it for. I like the layout of the X1 - its very DJ dummy proof and set up for instant use with Traktor.

On a side note - I’m getting to the point where I want to carry less and less, and hook up less things. (currently considering a DX, so the X1’s might be up for sale soon). When I see a Maschine I see so many buttons/pads/knobs, etc. It just seemed like more than I needed and would end up not using it all. The X1 as the right fight at the time…at least for me.

does anyone know how well maschine integrates into logic?

I haven’t actually gotten into getting it all figured out yet. I JUST got the maschine two days ago and I’m actually having some problems with the stupid ebay seller transferring the license.

I just think the X1 is a little limited since its dedicated for controlling effects. It has some playback functions, but not really any spare buttons for hotcues, or spare knobs for super knobs or anything. I just saw a lot more potential in the Maschine.

As for the production part, I’ve heard nothing but good things about the Maschine software/hardware combo. Sounds are great, workflow is great, and the new 1.5 update seems pretty sick too.

Uh, in hotcue mode all the lower buttons are hotcues - 8 per deck.

yea I mean you have to go into another mode for it so you can’t have them readily accessible

I’m not really a fan of modes or shifts and stuff like that

I am pretty sure you can host the maschine software inside of logic, so it should integrate seamlessly.

thanks! i read some things on the NI forum about some problems with logic but they were from the first release, and i havent read anything in the later comments

@ faeruithir I get what your saying now… but the thing is I want to get into production & also have more functionality into my dj set…so i might go with maschine

found the maschine for 400 on djdeals.com

is djdeals secure?
