I gave in to the latest NI’s advertising and bought the latest MK2 TCV’s.
I did a side by side comparison using the S4 and the Audio 8 as phono amps, SL1200Mk5 as source with various carts I had in the studio.
They are marked for TSP 2.1 only, meaning those with 2.03 or less won’t get the benefit of these. I suppose it also limits the use to legally purchased software too.
The first thing to note is when calibrating the circle is a little different and the words MK2 vinyl appear under the circle.
I did many tests using various carts and have come to the conclusion that they are certainly worth the investment.
Traking seems a little bit better, but being the basic black (a little heavier), the red Mk1’s are better for scratching overall.
I wasn’t expecting a life changer, but if you are replacing your TCV’s soon, then definitely go for the new 2.1 MK2’s.
I’ve been using the MK2s for a few months and prefer them over the old ones. They are more direct (like real vinyl) and also don’t loose track that easily.
if you install Traktor 2.1 can you still use the old timecode or just the new MK2’s. I have the limited edition Qbert skratchy seal/traktor timecode vinyl and still want to be able to use it.
AFAIK That is not correct dude.
If you bought a Traktor Scratch product that included MK1 vinyl you will always be able to use that vinyl as it will calibrate.
No-one is being forced into buying MK2 timecode.
This information comes directly from the person that developed the new timecode signal.
I feel that the MK1 TCV dont feel very natural comparing with regular vinil.
I would uprgrade to Traktor 2, but there are some thing i dont like in it… the new waveforms look bluried!
yes i’ve tried to use monochrome, but on the small waveform stll bluried.
i’ve donwloaded the temo sometime ago form the NI website to see the new features, but didn’t bought the upgrade!
The new with the new timecode feeling more acurate i feel more tempted to upgrade
Unless NI change the entire way that the sound is processed (as expertly described by [i think] Karlos somewhere in this forum) you will have blurred waveforms.
Why is it a big deal for people, you mix with your ears not your eyes.
With timecode i look less and less at the screen, hopefully there will be a day when all i look at is the crowd again …
and about the upgrading from 1.2.7? from what i’ve read, i still can use the MK1 TCV with the new version of T2, or only if i’d bought T2 with MK1 TCV ?
