Aphex Twin’s 1999 single, “Windowlicker,” included a B-side with the catchy name of …
… (fans just call it “[Equation],” unless they’re real douchebags). Five minutes and 30 seconds into the song, a metallic, buzzing noise is heard, which is frankly nothing out of the ordinary for Aphex Twin. What IS fucked up is that when you run that section through a spectrograph (a program that converts sound waves into visible images), this comes out:
“Most listeners at the time had no idea something like this was possible (shit, we live in 2010 and we didn’t either), so even if they were computer-savvy enough to understand the title of the song, they probably thought it was an obscure joke.”
fucking hipsters. they were hipsters before hipsters were hipsters.
but thats fucking cool.
also, copy and paste any sentence from a cracked article. i think the result fits our topic here
Actually the aphex one is super old news.. known about that weeks after this was released.
RDJ talked about it in his interviews and I believe it was something in wavlab that let you do this.
The text file hidden in a signal on the vinyl was interesting. Also, didn’t know you could do cool tricks like continuous loops etc on records . Pink Floyd the tripsters lol
about to load up those 3 tool tracks in traktor to see what all the fuss is about. was usually too stoned listening to that record to click onto any subtle technical wizardry lol
Dude, that brings back memories. When I was in high school, WAY BACK(think 1986), my friend bought the Monty Python album and we both got a bit altered and put it on. We tripped the fuck out when we replayed the first side and it was totally different. Blew our minds. Totally ingenious to have two totally different tracks intertwined on one side of vinyl.
BTW I can’t wait to try both the Tool & Radiohead bits.
