[OT] Thinking of Selling/Trading my DJM-700 for A Rane TTM57SL
Thats right, it looks like im ready to switch to the dark side. I got to play on a 57 & Serato Scratch Live this weekend and it fell in love with it. The fader were super smooth, and sounds very crisp. I like that I can map just about anything i need within serato on the mixer.
Setup is easy…1 usb cable, 2 rca’s, built in fx’s that I actually use, loop roll, echo fade, filter. I dont need 25 fxs! The bridge is finally open and I can really use the mixtape feature…oh and it have Video-SL. Looks like everything that I wanted for Traktor, Serato has added the features.
Heck, I might sell maschine, and the extra Kontrol X1.
Sounds like i drank the kool-aid, but its 2011 and Traktor doesnt look like its met my needs.
Not knocking this at all. SSL is an amazing piece of software, and I honestly feel like it flows better than Traktor. That being said, it’s also a lot more “traditional” in the sense that there isn’t quantization for cue jumping and the like.
It’s also one of the reasons I’ve been so wishy-washy on what setup I want for myself, because I love the feature-set of Traktor, but the GUI of Serato. (Seriously, it’s a huge portion.)
I would say, if you like it, do it. Nothing wrong with it and I’m pretty sure you’d be quite happy.
I also would like to think Rane makes a better mixer than Pioneer, but that’s just me.
Only thing to watch out for would be compatibility issues with the new i5 and i7 processors and serato.
I am on the same mission. I love Traktor and all, and before Bridge was released I was sure i’d switch upon the announcement of it. However the Bridge worked backwards to what so many expected. At first it really turned me off and I dove into Ms Pinky for a while. After coming back to Traktor, I started to see the beauty in SSL and how it intergrates with the Bridge.
I have been putting off buying an SL37 just because it’s USB 1.0. Sure it’s been put through it’s paces by countless DJ’s and not many complaints about it. However NAMM is a couple weeks away and I wanna see what RANE show out with.
If they dont come with a SL37 update, I may go for the SL3 and either an Ecler Nuo2 or a VestaxProBlack. I really wish they would release something like the 68 only 2 channel battle style.
Chris, if he sell’s you can have the Machine. I’ve thought about it and i have way too much on my plate right now to learn a new piece of hardware/software.
Funny I just added this picture on the “show us your setup” post as my first post in a mostly Traktor website. I used Traktor since it was partnered with Stanton with Final Scratch. I made the jump about 2 years ago before The Bridge was announced and I haven’t looked back. I love the vinyl feel but I REALLY like the controllerism aspect that Scratch Live brings in with The Bridge. I messed around today for about 2 hours with Scratch Live and I think I only used the actual vinyl to mix in a track about 3 times, the rest was done exclusively with the APC40 and Ableton Live to trigger clips, effects, EQs and fade ins/out with the volume controls. With this setup I can go anywhere that has a Serato/Rane unit with just my APC40 and plug in. I wouldn’t even need to touch any vinyl, CDs, CDJs or anything. I feel like it gives me, personally, more options of how I want to play.
pros/cons: we get his stuff if he switches I want the maschine dammit!
Seriously, if it feels good do it. I LOVE my Rane TTM-56. The faders are amazing, and the sound is excellent. The mixer is solid and reliable, and I’ve owned it for almost a decade now (got it when they first came out in 2000 or 2001). I’ve played a lot with the 57 too and it’s fantastic, same basic mixer but with some midi doodads and kill switches that get extra points from me for having little skulls light up when you hit them. Those magnetic faders, though, nothing compares. Definitely a far better mixer to play with than anything from Pioneer.
I came the other way; I used Serato for about 3 years or so before I found my way to Traktor a couple years ago. If Serato was where it is now when I switched I never would have jumped ship – it was solid software, it did what it was supposed to do, and it stayed out of your way. I like the way it organizes tracks and I liked having very little to fiddle with before getting started. These are still points it has over Traktor, though I really like the option of going turntable-less these days and I’ve gotten really into controllers and Traktor’s effects, so I’m not moving myself… but I’ve still got my SL-1 and it’s good to know I can use Serato if I ever have to jump on the decks after someone and don’t have the opportunity to set up my gear. I keep it installed on my computer and my songs analyzed in it, so it’s there when I need it. I even played with the bridge a bit; it’s pretty cool and I imagine the mixtape feature is really fun to use with the TTM-57 since it will record your actions on the mixer to play around with in ableton.
thanks proben, for the info. It was pretty crazy cuz I play a gig on new years day and I didnt feel like setting up my gear, i brought my vci100, x1, audio 2 and audio 8 plus timecodes. The promoter ask me to setup and wanted to know how much space i needed, I just told him, hey ill play on serato.
But Im pretty sure that Im going to sell atleast 1 X1 w/the case.
