over-moderated?

So I’m a big fan of this forum. I’m also all for saying what you feel and not getting all butt hurt from posts on the internet. While I understand not everyone is the same, so you think negativity in posts really hurts the site? I feel like I’ve been seeing way too many posts get moved/deleted/locked/edited.

I’d like to add I have no personal problems with the Mods, and have never had any of my stuff messed with… Just posting an observation.

I’ve only noticed threads that are wildly out of control or just plain stupid get closed. I think the Mods on this forum are great at keeping things in line. This is the only forum I’ve seen where bashing and shit talk don’t run rampant.

Ibtl haha

I’ve noticed they are a little too fast to combine threads…recently I saw a thread that got combined that had nothing to do w/ the thread it got combined with other than that it made mention of the topic. Of course, I know no one here will admit it, but if anyone mentions anything negative about NI then it’s prob not going too far before it gets closed. Other than that I think they do a great job

Got any examples to back up this assertion?

I mean you’ve been around for a little while. If you havent noticed it, then thats cool. I’ve def seen it on a few occasions. Kinda hard to dig em up, it’s not something I keep track of. I do remember a thread that would be a great example that got just plain deleted and another that got “combined” (bunch of posts deleted too) with some other massive general thread (like 13+ pages) that was really meant for S4 users that were having audio issues, and I think this guys original thread had something to do w/ just Traktor 2…so with it being combined with a thread that was soo big and kinda didnt have anything to do w/ the topic felt to me like they were trying to sweep it under the rug.

Not trying to prove anything either…if you haven’t noticed/experienced it then good. I think they’re doing a good job all in all, just throwing out honest feedback from my point of view

At the end of the day, if you’re going to bitch about this sort of stuff, then there’s plenty of un-moderated corners of the internet to troll. Nobody is keeping you here.

As for the mods, who work here for free, keep the forum from descending into a repetitive “what headphones, sync is cheating, give me your music library, give me a DJ name” hell and still get this slap in the face from the very people they are trying to provide a service to, keep up the good work.

I think you’re taking the OP all wrong. There’s no bitching here at all, if anything it’s just feedback. I think everyone will agree they are doing a good job and I’m sure no one is un-grateful. I’ve seen some things that maybe I woulda handled different…I mean I dnno maybe I wouldnt. Im cool w/ the way things are.

@manchild… In the vernacular of the OP, I was ‘just posting an observation’

To respond to your previous point, you appear to be insinuating that there is a shadowy agenda behind some of the actions moderators are taking, specifically regarding NI products, correct?

I think its better to be over moderated then under.

This conversation sucks. I’ve already said everything I wanted to say to u. I’m not going any further on this.

I’m sure someone will construe this as being aggressive, but I’ll go ahead and say whats on my mind anyway.

Yeah, I do believe it’s getting over moderated, and I just fired off an email to JesC about this thread:

Since when was it a crime to ask a question, no matter how much it’s asked?. The first post I ever made on this forum was in a Mac vs. PC thread, and here I am almost 1000 posts later still helping the community whenever I can. Technology changes constantly, and new points can come up for consideration and discussion - why was that thread locked?, because someone might have a pissy fit?. Since when was asking a simple basic technology question on a website which is labeled “Disk Jockey Technology Tools” considered such a bothersome thing?.

If the reasoning was that people might get pissy, that’s their problem. Nobody is twisting your tit to read or respond to it. As for some of us (myself included), I would actually like to give some opinion on that subject in a neutral and informative manner so that I can contribute to the community.

Rather than lock the thread of a new member and give him a “whatever” response which will shy him away - why not allow members a chance to answer his question. Believe it or not despite it’s recurrence, some of us enjoy directing people to informative resources, or sharing our thoughts.

Instead of muting people asking for help, mute the people being pissy about it.

Aside from that though, the community is fantastic and informative and I only wish to see new people contribute and help it grow. Getting a warm welcome helps that process out considerably.

great discussion guys. feedback is always appreciated, positive AND negative

The mac vs. PC threads are so played out. Questions like “which is better, mac or pc?” Are like asking “what’s a better fruit apple or an orange?”. Most members here conduct themselves in a very adult way, and can give opinions and take opinions without getting their panties in a bunch, but a handfull will get bent out of shape. Those are the ones that are the reason behind closing threads like this (imo). I really enjoy this forum because its kept very civil. You really want to know what’s better, google isn’t moderated.

And honestly, that’s really what holds the community together, and I for one appreciate moderators who have an outlook such as yours. Thank you for taking my feedback into consideration

Im not saying Mac vs. PC threads aren’t played out, trust me I’m a Director of IT for an educational institute so I hear it every day (more than I care for sometimes lol). But if people can’t control themselves on something as simple as an opinion, maybe a forum isn’t for them - and they certainly shouldn’t be the ones setting the standards for things like thread locks.

Hell, I think dubstep is crap but I’m not bringing out the sword and shield when I see a Skrillex thread lol.

Personally, I find the incessant repetition of the same questions over and over completely repugnant. I’ve been on this site for two"ish" years and seen the a same questions asked over and over and over. The way i see it, if you’re not willing to put in the time, yourself, to research a hobby/career then WTF should I just offer up the info. Personally, I LOVE the fact that the Mods close threads that have been answered/posted over and over and over again. Like I said, I’ve only been here for less than three years and seen the Mac/PC debate threads come up at least 20 times. If the mods didn’t do the job that they’re not even bring payed to do, this place would become a mire of repeated threads with one or two responses and the same “douchey” questions asked over and over again, I definitely would “check in” here less. Maybe it just boils down to the fact that I don’t understand these generations that want all the info handed to them and can’t take responsibility for doing just a modicum of self research.

—Sorry for the rant— But just the fact that this is being bandied about kind of annoys me. The Mods here are all heavily contributing members who’ve helped countless people before they became mods and after they did. I can name each one and at least 2 or 3 times they’ve schooled me on stuff and I have nothing but respect.

Seriously? Was that a joke?

I added “Poll” to the title. Sorry.

Makes sense. Just seemed ironic.

Hey if it was, it made me laugh. Sounds like something I would do out of humor just to fuck with people lol.
