People who over-exaggerate and “flutter” or “flick” their hands while DJ’ing.
We’ve all seen it…I find It REALLY odd. After all, we’re turning knobs and pushing faders. The throw of the faders isn’t even that long and yet you see people with their hands flailing about.
Example:
-Right hand pushing buttons, left hand flailing about…Doing…Well, not a heck of a lot in the beginning but moving frantically nonetheless. At certain points the left hand isn’t doing anything except (frantically) finding a place to rest.
(btw, not taking jabs at Ean or this site, which I happen to love very much, just couldn’t think of another example or video at this time)
I’ve got a problem with the “Jesus pose” kind of flailing about, but other than that, I think it might just be a way to get “with the flow” of the music, kinda like nodding your head
But more entertaining than just watching a guy carefully pushing faders and press buttons carefully and slowly … I know when I get sucked into it my hands start pushing buttons and nudging imaginary faders and playing drums that most defiantly don’t exist hehe.
I totally get that. A DJ needs to have a stage presence just like a musician.
I’ll often groove to the music, and sometimes even head-bang (of sorts), but the hand flicker seems very superfluous to me, as if an attempt to make button pushing more glamorous, or difficult than what it really is…Moving your index finger half a centimetre to activate a button.
would you rather a zombie DJ on stage? Standing there motionless except turning a few nobs and buttone>? I know of a guy that plays the guitar, I usto live with this guy and he has releases a few Albums over the past 20 years too. Anyways, this guy has a crazy twitch, he can’t sit still unless he is performing. the whole right side of his body has like turrets or something. Put a guitar back in his hand, it ALL goes away
You know what I hate? People who use the term over-exaggerate. Its a redundant term. Exaggerate already means something is stressed or magnified. You can’t fucking over magnify something! You can increase magnification but you can’t over magnify, its like dividing by fucking zero…
If it means to stress or magnify, you actually can go too far. objects can be stressed, but over stressing them will result in it breaking. Also, you can magnify something, but over magnifying will result in what your looking at becoming unidentifiable. Your logic is faulty.
No it isn’t. “Over” magnification is just increasing magnification beyond an arbitrary point. You can’t “over” magnify. Magnification is endless, as is stress, as is exaggeration.
What if you want to magnify something to see it more clearly but you magnify it so much that what you want to see is too close up and you cannot see all of what you intended to see? You have, in that case ‘over magnified’ it.
You can exaggerate something to a satisfactory degree (to suit a purpose) and you can also over-exaggerate to the point that the degree of exaggeration is too much .
Now, a really annoying term is “over egg” something. Ive never “egged” something so im pretty sure i cant “over egg” something.
