Pioneer’s PLX-500 Turntable

Pioneer’s PLX-500 Turntable

Thoughts on this? How are these compared to 1200s?. I do like that price point.

You can’t go wrong for the price of 'em. I’m genuinely shocked at that price. This is aimed at the non-DJ’s that are buying vinyl as much as it aimed at the DJ’s.

I don’t like the placement of the USB cable, or the power cord. It means you can’t flip 'em battle style and have 'em sit flush with the mixer. Not a massive problem, just a slight niggle.

i was actually surprised with their pricing on it

good for them, im sure these will sell quickly

Meh..someone needs to produce a new table with midi in. Who cares about these plasticy Junkers…

I’m not so sure about that, Snafu. We can quite easily replicate that functionality using DVS and pitched samples.

Have you seen the A-Trak/Craze vid where they map pitch+trigger to single pad? Looks like a lot of fun…

It’s an Audio Technica Lp120.

IBT Hanpin references…

What does that mean?

http://www.hanpin.com.tw/4_Products_02.html

i didnt see any tables there at hanpin with midi in… and the method of mapping pitched samples has limitations. in this day we need more people making midi in tables, not more plastic bargain tables that will guaranteed make you just want a set of techs anyway…just imho

The price point is pretty impressive. I think it falls in line with the idea of the XDJ-700 in creating a consumer friendly alternative. I could see beginning DJs using these, as well as non-DJ vinyl lovers as well. The inclusion of switchable phono/line level output is great for people who might not know a lot about hi-fi setups, but it allows them to take baby steps into it.

The announce of this with USB recording capabilities after announcing Rekordbox’s recording functions seemed like a pretty smart move. The internal RCA is a little confusing given it’s more consumer nature, but I wonder if that has to do with the switchable phono/line output?

Also I know that half black, half white picture on the blog is meant to show both colorways, but I’d buy that in a heartbeat.

Re: midi, Reloop 8000 IS Hanpin.
This Pioneer is nothing new, it’s on the market for 15 years under different brands.

I agree. To me it just looks like another company rebranding 3560’s as their own. Im hoping Pioneer went a different route, but only time will tell. Ill have my hands on one September 8th apparently. Ill let yall know.

Indeed, Hanpin DJ-3560 with added USB feature. Same specs.

It does appear very similar to the Hanpin, but is way below 1200 specs in terms of wow and flutter and rumble, which are the main things that affect recording a good copy of vinyl to digital, which is the main purpose of this thing.

Also, I see a lot of people freaking out about what DVS means regarding RekordboxDJ. If they enable RekordboxDJ to use the internal audio interface of the PLX units for timecode control of the decks, should we still call it DVS? Internal DVS? Some other name?

You’ll still need Timecode Vinyl, so I’d still call it DVS.

In fact, would you send the Timecode from the TT via USB, or via the Phono cables? Which would be best?

I’ve had Technics for so long that I can’t imagine using anything else. I only wish they were 1210’s instead of 1200’s.

You must NOT be a Hip-Hop DJ…

I mean that’s purely dependent on your setup I would imagine. Running it straight into a Pioneer mixer via phono makes the most sense because you could then just switch the input if you wanted to play out normal vinyl.

But it seems like sending the timecode through DVS isn’t a thing, in regards to this quote from the DJTT preview, but maybe it is possible? I guess you could still have the phono plugged in too if you wanted to play normal records too..
Worth noting: Pioneer seems pretty explicit in their press release about these turntables only working as DVS controllers with Rekordbox DJ and a compatible DJM mixer – but according to Pioneer, that includes everything on this list.

We suspect that Rekordbox won’t support DVS input via the USB port into a DJ mixer – but that would be really cool if it did! Theoretically you could make an aggregate audio device out of two PLX-500s and try to use it as a DVS input in Rekordbox DJ…
