Pioneer XDJ-800 as Controller for VDJ (in worst case Traktor)
Hello Everybody,
The Venue I started playing lately does have 2 XDJ-800 and a Pioneer Mixer.
By now I always took my XDJ-R1 with me and played either from CDs or used it to control Virtual DJ.
This way of working is cool for me but does implement that I have to carry my heavy bag with the XDJ-R1 for each gig + My Backpack with the Notebook which is stupid as there are those 2 Players there that could be Setup by the owner easily.
I tried to find some tutorials which would help me to find out how to connect those Players with my Laptop and to use them as Controller for Virtual DJ (my favorite Software by now) or Traktor (which I also own but doesn’t make me as happy as VDJ. (Very subjective Point of view)
If I could use those Players to control my VDJ I would be really happy and could walk to the Gig with just Notebook, Headphones and maybe Sticks.
Does anyone of you a good Video Tutorial or a good Website that Shows me how to set it up?
I’m pretty new to Controllerism…played all my gigs with CDs for the last 17 years (until May 2017) but I finally made the Change lately.
To be honnest there’s no big issue by now, VDJ is pleasant to me and changing my Habits playing with those Mediaplayers would certainly be a certain challenge now that I found out how to handle it with my XDJ-R1 the way it is comfy for me…but being over 40, having to carry less weight is also a big Topic
So any of your help is welcome, but please don’t start with “Why don’t you use Rekordbox/Traktor/etc…” as Traktor is only an Option if VDJ isn’t possible and Rekordbox is not an Option to me (I have my reasons and don’t wanna explain it. So I just wanna know:
Download the free version of rekordbox, watch a couple of videos on how to prep and export your music to USB, take two USB sticks and you’re sorted. Why complicate things?
This is always easier said than done. I’m a longtime serato user, and recreating your playlists and cue points is always such a huge pain that keeps you from switching your platform. That is until I got Rekordbuddy, best money I’ve spent in a long time. That program really freed me up to use usb sticks and ditch the laptop for some gigs, because the complete layout of my library is just the way I’m used to.
