Please measure the dimensions of your Technics 1200s for me!!!

Hey all,

I’m currently working on a custom workstation build, and I will be making cutouts for sl-1200s; however, I have not purchased them yet, and the closest shop is quite far away.

I have scoured the internet, and have found tons of different specs for these turntables (even the Japanese and English official users manuals list different specs for the same model!)

Therefore, I am asking the this community for help–and the task is quite simple:

  1. Please measure the EXACT length, width, and height of your SL-1200 turntable, down to the exact mm.
  2. Please post the measurement, along with the model of your particular turntable (MK2, MK5, etc.)

Let’s finally put a rest to all the conflicting figures online.

Please and thank you!

P.S.

Once the build is complete, the designer is likely going to start taking orders based on the design. I can guarantee it is going to be an absolute steal compared to all the other high-end tables on the market. I’ll be sure to keep everyone updated

You want 1210’s as well?

ok , I’ll bite

** im not claiming these to be rocket science accurate, i took them on a $3 plastic tape measure**

technics SL-1200 mk2

13 and 7/8th inches width
**add another 11/16th inch for the hinge

17 and 13/16th inch length

5 and 7/8th inch height with tone arm

3 and 13/16th inch height to platter

3 and 5/16th inch deck height

** keep in mind you can adjust the feet on the turntable to slightly increase/decrease height**

Thanks for asking. Feel free to post if you like; however, I haven’t seen any 1210s in Japan (where I live). I’m likely going to end up with an mk3 or mk5.

Thanks!

And thanks very much for that last bit of info! I did not know

Just take a look at that and tell me that Metric isn’t a far superior measurement system. I’d have no idea where to begin with these measurements.

Here’s the technical specs to compare.

You struggle with fractions?

I struggle with pointless inconsistency.

fractions are always calculated with the same formulas, thus fractions are consistent. i dont care how cozy you are with metric, when you look at half of a pie , you dont call it 1567 mg of pie, you call it HALF OF A PIE. amirite?

The “inconsistency” is the whole point.

I’ve got an engineering background, so metric/imperial is not a problem for me.

An 1/8th of an inch is still 0.125".

Excellent post here my good friend thank you for sharing that with us

I literally posted a link to the official dimensions right there.

Thank you again for being the only person to actually contribute to this thread. I really needed to understand the size of the faceplate, so I can make sure I can make my cutouts for my table the right size. I also needed to get a better understanding of the height from feet to platter, as I have to know how deep to make my table so the turntables will fit.

If anyone is able to proide details measurements like these for Mk5s it would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards

Aaron
