Practicing
How often/long do you practice your craft? Personally, I play until I make a shitty transition and hate myself for it. I usually come back for more an hour later. ![]()

I cannot seem to find enough willpower to actually regularly practice.. I suck.
I spend more time on here than actually practicing ![]()
But about 30-1 hr.
Haha Iām the same way. I usually mix for about an hour right when I get home from work - itās the best way to unwind for me. And then Iāll do some virtual crate-digging/track-prepping later in the evening for another hour maybe.
Weāre like DJ twins. After work with a nice cold one. Thatās how I do.
Not enough right now as I have to store my equipment in boxes due to not having a table to use them on. Iāve been meaning to build a custom one for 6 months or so but just never get round to it.
I reckon I use them for an hour every 2-3 weeks which is rubbish!
I try to get 2-3 hours of spinning in a week, spend a lot more time searching for new tunes.
A few hours a day usually ![]()
2 hours a day at full volume.
I used to every day for at least 1 hour for the past 20 years but I never viewed it as practice, more as having fun doing what I love. These days I spend more time trying to redevelop a mental health ward and fighting off the belly. Less time to play sadly.
I see in your signature you have a Xone S2. Howās that mixer? ![]()
Itās lush mate. Rotary rack mounted, great sound quality, built in limiter, dedicated sub out etc etc. I love it.
Nice! I would love to give one a go some day.
I practice while giving my new mappings a test run ![]()
2 birds with 1 stone. I like it. ![]()
I mix once or twice a week for an hour or two at a time. That is when I can find the time, which is difficult with a job, wife, 2 kids and a dog.
Quick question, what is that alarm plug on the back?? I see it, Iām just not sure what it doesā¦
Iāve never called it practicing either. Iāve always just called it mixing. I only get a few hours a week these days. I work late and my apartment is pretty hollow. I get about 1 night a week and Saturday afternoon. My girlfriend absolutely hates my music, so that doesnāt help. I get it though. Itās hard to find anybody that actually likes dnb. I usually just spend the time to learn new tunes and how they work with other tunes. Just shit like the key and 48 or 64 bar intro or 16 or 32 bar breakdown. Make mental notes of tunes that drop at funky times and figure out where vocals are in the tune. I donāt even view mixing as ādjāing.ā Itās more about interacting with the music that moves me.
I will stop a shitty transitionā¦sort out a better trackā¦start the previous track just before the mixā¦
If I played a housey genre or something nice an easy with just drum introās Id probably not practice much lol. But as I mix glitch hop and ghetto funk most times songs need to just work!
So i find myself devoting a couple hours a week. I find that mixing is more song choice then anything. So I spend a lot of time digging for that right sound I want. I feel that there will always be a song, to mix in a song. even if you dont think so.
