Pro & Cons of using X1’s in native mode vs. midi mode

Got an S4, really love the thing but hate how the mapping is locked down. I mean you cant change ANYTHING !?

I made a mapping for my x1s to control fx 1234 and some other stuff. But i hit a brick wall trying to do something that required a button working like a knob, so im thinking ill need to rewrite the whole mapping in midi.

Before i start Im wondering if there are any downsides to running it all in midi as opposed to native.

NHL has a much higher resolution for analog controls. From the Native Instruments website: “NHL protocol allowing 30 times more data to be processed compared to regular MIDI”. I don’t really see it being a big deal on the X1, though.

Off the top of my head, I’m pretty sure you should be able to use the “Auto Repeat” option to make a button act as a knob (assuming that’s the effect you’re going for…). I’m not in front of my X1, so I could be wrong on that one…
