Program That Detects Genre

no offense or anything but is that even possible?
there are a few programs that can detect the BPM/Key(MixenInKey). i really doubt genre.
well. there is one…
I got that program, but it shuts down after it’s overloaded with too many shitty Beatport samples. ![]()
i got that one too but im lazy when theres too many files
There has actually been some research on this problem. See for example this paper (PDF link):
http://citeseerx.ist.psu.edu/viewdoc/download?doi=10.1.1.126.380&rep=rep1&type=pdf
But unfortunately:
So, short answer, no ![]()
I should make a program like that, market it, and purposely make it return any music analysis with “Smooth Jazz” lol
I highly highly doubt that, well maybe one day when computers are waaaaaay more faster and has waaaaaaaaay more intelligent code !
I think its in the realms of possibility, but not with todays technology.
Plus honest to god, anyone who has ever uploaded a track to any music forum and put the genre in the topic has been quickly corrected with a “I dunno dude I wouldn’t call that hard house…”
I mean most broad genres can be detected via bpm. House=126, Dubstep=140, Drum & Bass = 174. Etc… Genre has never been my problem.
Also, it can be subjective. I know I change the genres of music because Im organizing the music! Some tracks go to progressive house to trance. Others, will be house to electro house. Either way, train the ear and dont forget make it easy on you, when categorizing your music.
To answer the question, no I dont know. Haha
BPM surely does not equal genre. You’re best off doing this as you DJ. Just allow In-Line-Editing and put the genre in when you load the track.
So all my 140bpm Northern Soul is actually Dubstep?!?!
