Promoters that dont have a fking clue [RANT]**

So its saturday afternoon, im bloody skint so i cant go out and i get a phonecall asking if i wanted to do a 3 hour bar gig, funky house, £60, can you be here in 2 hours? i said yes. spent about £30 on new funky tracks and turned up at the gig.

2 songs in and the promoter says to me, what you playing is far too heavy, tone it down a bit, so i lowered the low end EQ on traktor (playing external btw) just to keep the low ends permanantly down. few minutes later he moans again then dissapears

Half an hour later turns up with a USB stick and told me to plug it in, found a loooong saxaphone and piano based tech song (the man with the red face, if anyone is interested) took out my x1 and blasted in the USB stick, first song i seen, laidback luke - brand new bitch *.H33T. size:5.4mb. Second song, LMFAO - sexy and i know it (Mord fustang remix), again, shite filesize.

Torrented, shite quality, not funky house.
So in his eyes, Two of the biggest names in dutch and electro respectively, is heavier than Laurent Garnier - Man with the red face (Youtube it now!).
Plus the fact that the whole place was busy, people were dancing and i never seen a single person leave untill half 10 (Bar shut at 11).

took my pay and blocked his number. the guy was well known for not having a clue before because he’d approached some guys i know in the past, his latest ‘massive gig’ had 55 in the door. And he had hired a magician for in the VIP. I just thought that once he suggested play some funk, i thought the guy had banged his head or something and now thinks like a normal human being

/rant.

Sounds like a complete dick mate!! Take his money and leave!

Facebooked me this morning,
‘Sorry about being a little rash last night i had the manager breathing down my neck, go to this website here, insert torrentz here dont see why your paying for tunes that most of them you can get for fuck all, you still cool to play the pizza club tonight?’

Urgh i want to punch this guy square in the face, once as a budding producer and two because he’s an arsehole.

Ty jester for changing name, i forgot we cant change title names after they’re posted :disappointed:

I wish I could block numbers. Oh, wait. I have nobody to block nor anyone calling.

foreveralone.

Ahhhhhhh… :disappointed:

Stories like this always make me glad that I don’t depend on gig money.

man with a red face is not a new funky house track lol…but that aside…he (the promotor) clearly hasnt a clue.

also…how does lowering the low end tone down a tracks energy really?

Wasnt meaning man with the red face was one of the new tracks  Just its one of my longest tech/funky songs so i had time to have a look through what was on this USB.

And he was meaning they were too heavy as in bass heavy, then handed me electro tracks.

he’s a twat.

I normally dont either mate, im usually quite happy with my weekly friday spot because the owners bloody brilliant, lets me play whatever i want as long as people are dancing, and always paid on time. Just there was a screw up in pay with my real job which has left me rooked this week

Yeah, thats a twat alright..

annoys me when people brag about robbing music… itll get to the stage were people wont even release music, they will save them to play live so you pay to go see them since id say 95% of people rob the music… the only people that really pay for songs are legit dj’s bar the ones that get songs sent for free…

On this side of the world we get paid close to nothing on smaller gigs (if they actually pay). Why? You are expected to pirate music AND software.

but its the same as taking up something like golf for a hobby… clubs cost a few hundred, balls cost money, tee’s cost money, to enter a competition it costs money…
anual membership here in Ireland is around 1000 euro a year and membership fee’s are around 15,000 to 20,000 in most clubs (well used to be)… people never see any of this money back and dont earn anything from playing golf (unless professional) but do it for a hobby…

same way you might buy a car and do it up to race on race days… you dont win money for winning and dont get paid to do it  most the gigs I do and enjoy the most are the ones for charity… I love it because its a more laid back atmosphere it feels like a giant house party and im the host

Lesson learned I guess…

What does skint mean? :open_mouth:

It’s one thing to do a free/charity gig because you want to, other is because it’s just cheaper to the venue.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m in for the love of music but earning close to nothing just because a greedy owner wants to save $50 a night isn’t exactly promoting the scene development.

BTW, clubs pay $50-60 if you are lucky enough to milk a buck out of them.

(ok, back to hoodless’ rant now )

mobile dh’s seem to make the most in the uk, and here we are back to the advances the laptop has brought to the dj booth vs every1 with a laptop and a snide copy of tractor thinking there a dj

Having no, or close to no, money left.

Ah, thanks.

If its any consolation mate, i did a gig last nite with warring crowds, one wanted funk and disco, the other wanted country and irish gimmick tunes.

oh and i got the, do you have youtube on that?

I was expecting a 21st when i showed up, but it was out in the sticks, deliverence country
