Raising equipment levels to proper height

Raising equipment levels to proper height

What are some good ways to raise equipment levels to proper height and keep it in place (so it doesn’t slide around while playing)?

Currently I am trying to find some ways to raise my gear so that it’s all level and the knobs line up. My LPD8 sits quite a bit lower than my VCI-400 and also slides and rocks while I play it. I fixed the rocking problem by sliding a small post-it note pad underneath one of the rubber feet, but the sliding and height problems are still an issue.

I use a coffin, Maschine stands, drum hardware, the F1/X1 bags, and Crane stands.

Buy a cheap circular saw, a sheet of 1/4" plywood, 1/4" furniture foam and make someshort risers.

Aside from that I use foam inserts such as the ones that my x1 came housed in.

my studio is at standing level, although my desk is a little short. Right now I just use random things(cardboard stands, books, drum practice pads, 3 ring binders) keeping my stuff up. There are lots of things you can get for the sliding problem. Velcro strips, tiny adhesive rubber feet, 3m command strips if it’s going to be semi-vertical, sorbothane hemispheres(decent at isolating monitors too), and various types of larger rubber feet that would also might take care of the height issue depending on how much you need. Granted, I don’t do live stuff.

books/shoeboxes

Beermats :tada:

Any-goddamn-thing I can lay my hands on. Rubber feet are a godsend. Get 'em on ebay.

A flightcase gives you good protection and also provides decent elevation, especially if you get one with rubber feet attached. Doesn’t really apply though if the little LPD8 is the only thing you want to raise..

To raise my X1 to mixer height, I used a bunch of old CD jewel cases. Works great at home.. maybe not so much in the club.

The Kontrol stand works very nicely for raising an X1 or F1 to exactly mixer height. I got one half price using the voucher that came with my X1.

I use a flightcase, it rases my F1 to the same height as the S4 for a cool Spaceship flight deck look.

Yeah, the stands look great.. half price would be good, as they seem a little over-priced.

Did you not get a voucher in your X1 box?

No, I bought it used, and it was an earlier one, so before the stand even existed.

are they solid? i imagine the foam being soft and the gear moving around

As long as it’s closed-cell foam, it’s REALLY solid. You won’t be folding or squishing it at all, which is good for the equipment stability but bad for transportation unfortunately. I use a couple of closed cell blocks underneath my Reloop Contours to raise them up to mixer height.

Reloop actually used to sell a couple of blocks of it called the “Contour Pad”, but discontinued them a while ago. Their versions were like £10 each, but I managed to get enough foam for both Contours AND to make some riser blocks for my TM4 for like £5 on eBay.

You can cut it with a normal craft knife (like one of these: http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_4_ENQfp-GLg/Sq7qno_cnxI/AAAAAAAAAlo/rzI2Fih8fKk/s320/craft-knife.jpg) into pretty much any shape you want, so if you want a slanted surface you can do that as well… especially useful for a Maschine or MPC/MPD etc.

cool stuff

You are a lifesaver. Im buying some to make custom case/stands for my contours. Thank you

No worries mate  To raise them up to a DJM-style mixer’s level, you want roughly 4cm thick foam
