Rating Songs in iTunes
How many of you guys actually spend time rating your songs on iTunes/Traktor or whatever you use?
And for those of you who do, do you find it actually useful?
Rating Songs in iTunes
How many of you guys actually spend time rating your songs on iTunes/Traktor or whatever you use?
And for those of you who do, do you find it actually useful?
I do and yes.
I rate my songs 1-5 stars based on the energy level of the songs. So if i want to keep things chill i can play songs in the 1-3 star range but once people are moving I can bump up to 4 stars or even drop some 5 star songs to really get people going
I use the comment 2 field to put in a 1-10 energy rating.
I do pretty much the same. I find it very useful.
If you rate something in itunes does it transfer to traktor? (would try it but i’m not at home computer)
Basically yes, if it’s the first time it’s loaded in Traktor. After that though they don’t update each other.
I use it to rate energy levels for my music too.. then create a smart playlist for each star rating.
This then allows me to use the smart playlist in traktor so i can move between energy levels and itunes will add tracks to each playlist as i rate them.
I have smart playlists of genres ie Jackin House.
I then have a top crate smart playlist made of that genre with 4-5 star ratings.
When I rate that tune 4 or 5 stars it goes in the top crate.
I do wish there was a more robust system in place.
Possibly a 10 star with hyper-color options to quickly indicate the intensity of the track/mix.
The 5 Gold Star system is a bit limited, but better than nothing.
iTunes was never really meant for DJ’s, so I guess they’re not going to implement more advanced sorting features.
What struck me was that Traktor doesn’t update new ratings, never knew that. What’s the best way of updating them? Re-analyzing the entire library?
For whatever reason Traktor stores it’s rating in a different location. I’m not sure about re-analyzing?
Uh hang on, looks like we’re on a different page here. I don’t rate my songs in Traktor, but I do sometimes change the rating in iTunes. From what I’ve understood Traktor doesn’t update these new ratings?
You’re correct, Traktor will not update the rating if you do change it in iTunes after the initial load. Pretty sure re-analyzing won’t do it either.
Uh, bummer. I’m currently reorganising my music library, thanks for telling me now, saves me a whole lotta work for nothing!
Ditto… well.. almost.. I use smart lists extensively also… thanks be to DJTT for that how-to post a while back. Was really helpful for me.. remembering names has always been my weakness… so back in the day when I was exclusively a vinyl DJ I relied on cover art to find the next tune.. When I switched to DVS I was lost!:eek:.. Now I use the comments section coupled with smart lists to find the next tune..
I’m terrible about remembering names. That’s the biggest downside to to this whole digital thing.
