So I am going to buy a machine to replace my x1 and this is mostlikely going to go next to a MFP but if those to controllers in my setup are closest to the edge of the table away and in front of me, if that makes sense, from me i want some small controller for track volumes and a fader because i mix internally…Any sugestions. I would map it to the Machine but i already am going to have a lot mapped to it i want to be smart. is this is a good idea: [ame=“Google Search”]Novation Nocturn Software - Google Search[/ame] idk please help thanks everyone…

How about an AKAI LPD 8 or Korg nanoKontrol.
The Nocturn you suggested looks even better suited for the job.

Nocturn or Nanokontrol would do the job well.

That’s what I said.

And I was agreeing with you

Yup, if he doesn’t buy either of these two he is insane.

Two DJTT opinions = DJ law

Haha brilliant, I’ll use that from now on.

Wait a minute, did we just have a thread where someone didn’t recommend either an X1, S4 or DDM4000???

I can also approve of the Nocturn!

Holy heart failure, Batman!

And I still don’t think endless encoders are the right solution for track volume levels. They do have their place (in situations where you have to change pages a lot or values change by themselves, e.g. FX section), but for EQs/volume rotary pots are just plain better. Using different pages for elementary stuff like that is a trainwreck waiting to happen, therefore rotary pots with their tactile feedback are superior imo.

I’m with you on this one.
While I prefer endless ones for most stuff, EQs and volume should be limited so you can grasp at what value you’re at.

I had a lot of complex mapping with stuff on different pages. In the end I had to “think” about what to press. That lack of intuitiveness made me bring a VCI-100 along VCI-300 so all features aren’t cramped into one controller. I still had everything mapped to the VCI-100 in case there was no space in the booth.

Having everything essential on a small device is also possible but not necessarily the best choice as this video shows:
