‘Underground’ is not very descriptive but I’m not sure how else to describe it and separate it from most of the popular electro that gets put out now. I’m not sure if anyone here feels the way I do but the Beatport top 100 electro house has been pretty depressing. Electro has followed the trend of some other genres and everything is either ‘complextro’ or sounds like everyone is using the same 15 annoying Massive patches in a contest to see who can make the dirtiest noises or fit as many synths as possible into one track.
If it would be at home on an OWSLA release it probably doesn’t belong in this thread.
Some recommendations (there’s some techy stuff that kind of fits in here too that I’ll post along with it):
my go to labels for electro are BNR and Phantasy, be good to check out the Erol Alkan Forums too, they usually have solid stuff. The new Boys Noize and Oizo one under the name Handbraekes is good!
Oh yeah definitely. There are quite a few techno tracks that have a very similar feel to a lot of the electro I like and I have been mixing it in. It also happens that most of the artists putting out killer electro house that I’ve been listening to also produce techno. Good track.
