Looking for dark electro

Looking for dark electro

Hi guys

I am thinking about stretching my wings out to electro music, but most of what I’ve heard has been, well, way too poppy for me. I want to focus mainly on electro that is darker and edgier than the standard fare.

So yeah, anyone have any recommendations on where to start (acts, labels, blogs, etc.) that focus on darker, more sinister styles of electro? If I had access to youtube right now I’d point you are Northborne, which is an electro act I’ve really been digging on.

Well, what you guys have to say? Keep in mind I’ve only heard the really poppy stuff and it, well, bores me completely.

sometimes you find very nice minimal and tech-house sounds that suit your description on Deepmixmoscow: www.deepmix.eu, depends on the day though

holla at SyblingQ (ForeverHex on our boards). That dude has some sick sick dark stuff. He prolly knows alot of the producers you looking for.

I’m into dark electro as well. I’m digging Felix Cartal quite a bit.

Nothborne is considered Dark electro? I always thought they were in the whole Industrial-techno genre with Combichrist. I think of older Skinny Puppy as Dark Electro, thus considering it a dead genre. Meh, I don’t know as much about it as you may though. :stuck_out_tongue:

Edit: Just thought about it and was wondering if you meant Electro from the 80s - early 90s or ElectroHouse aka Electro / Hard Electro?

Well if I have trouble defining what genre the music is, I’ll just go to last.fm or beatport and pretty much have their definition. Saves time and helpme find exactly what Im looking for.

Northborne would def. be in industrail-techno with combichrist. I’m nor really sure what you could classify dark electro as, though. Maybe some of :wumpscut:'s stuff? Tracks from Embryodead and maybe Bosses Junges Fleisch could be dark electro, I suppose.

YES! Thats why I asked if he was talking about Electro (Original) or Electro House (Nick named Electro). I figure Dvls knows all about some older Electro.

Dark Electro meaning house? or goth/industrial? I have lots of filthy/dark electro house, but I cant stand electro industrial/goth. Northborne was ebm I thought?

Not the industrial stuff. The last thing I need is more industrial styled dark electro.

I have a feeling whatever it is I got from emusic is labelled wrong, but it definitely feels like modern electro but dark. I’m not using “dark electro” as the genre name, but “dark” as the feeling of the electro genre. Not my scene, dudes, but the modern electro sound, just more sinister and dark.

I mean the dark, filthy electro/electrohouse. Not fidgit, but still.

Oh, you need some Sybling Q. lol :stuck_out_tongue:

Always waiting for you to send me some stuff, dude. I’ve liked what I’ve heard thus far :stuck_out_tongue:

Dvls, if you want we could set up a swap for tunes, Ive got tons of Dark Electro House, and nothing wrong with fidget if you lean towards the bassline stuff.

Nothin wrong with fidget, just not my preference. I like melody.

If I got stuff you want we can talk

Not sure entirely what you mean, but some of the new Boys Noize album is pretty dark. Or atleast I think it sounds pretty confrontational :stuck_out_tongue:

Have a listen to this and decide -

Think the album is meant to be out today as well

^^ Exactly what I was thinking.

Try some Boys Noize, D.I.M., Popof, Polymorphic, Marseille and even Tiga at a stretch. I especially recommend you get into Proxy. His upcoming track 8000 is the freshest thing I’ve heard in months, and last year’s ‘Raven’ is a work of brilliance.

Check out some shit by beetroots, like cornelious, or death of cornelious. John Roman also has a pretty dark intense sound, check out a track called Martyr by him.. That track is the shit!

Thanks guys, keep em coming. Figure the only way I’ll get people listening to the shit I like is if I play the shit they like with it, but I want it to fit. I’ll check out that youtube vid when I’m home, since I can’t at work :disappointed:
