Recording sets

What’s the best method you use to record your sets in high quality?

If a mixer with built in interface is available or with a komplete 6.

Audition for software.

depends on your setup

I use Traktor and a external mixer, The db4, in the menu of the db4 you can set a rec out to a desired channel and tell traktor to use this channel for recordings..

I just record through serato.

I have a DJM900 and two CDJ2000s. Right now I don’t have Traktor or Serato

you could route your output back into the line in port on your computer and use audacity to record.

This made my ears hurt.

Oh come on…it’s not that bad  I use an RCA to USB converter.

Use the mixer’s REC out and connect the RCAs to a tape deck. Just make sure to record for a few seconds first before starting the mix. Wait, is this not a thing anymore? :expressionless:

yea great guys. just offering an option. i know it sucks, but doesn’t seem like there are many more options

It won’t suck if the sound card is good.

Handheld recorder with line in is option too.

It actually is. Youre presumably using the lowest cost converter chip available (in generic rca to usb converter cables to record an analogue set. Its kind of perverse. They have terrible SNR and can kill dynamics.

Rec out on my mixer to Audio 6. Record through Traktor.

Your soundcard should have an output that you can route directly to the input on your recording software. I’m on OSX and I use Audio Hijack which I broke down and bought a few years ago; it’s pretty amazing. If you don’t mind Windows-95-style interfaces, Audacity is a good free alternative.

Otherwise you can just do audio out to an analog audio recorder (even an old school cassette deck for true badassery). But yeah I wouldn’t do analog out back to your computer if you can avoid it; it adds an unnecessary Digital/Analog conversion cycle.
