S2 software limitation clarification

S2 software limitation clarification

Hi,

Just looking to confirm the limitations of the S2.

Whilst it comes with the full version of Traktor Pro I understand that you can only use Decks C&D in sample mode. They dont work in Track Mode.

Is that correct?

So, its not just a hardware limitation (ie no knobs) if I have a S2 plugged in my software wont allow decks C&D to work in track mode?

Any other similar limitations?

Thanks

you get a full (=unrestricted) copy of TP2 period.

I know you get a full copy of TP but as I understand it there are limitations…

Read this review…

“In case you were wondering, I was able to make Decks C and D into Track Decks in the software and load songs into them. However, the S2 does not output their audio.”

Incompetent reviewer then. The S2 comes with plain-vanilla TP2. Of course, you can switch decks C and D to track decks. And, of course, the S2’s audio interface will output their audio (in internal mixing mode, all four decks are routed to the same stereo channel of the S2’s audio interface anyway).

Can somebody with an S2 please confirm?

The review just makes reference to users not being able to flip to decks C and D like with the S4. Nothing to do with the actual software. S2 comes with a complete version of Traktor Pro 2.

If it plays the audio out of sample decks it’ll play the audio out of track decks.

You would think full version means that it is a full version, but the reviews definitely indicate otherwise.

I read a few interviews and they all seem to indicate that you get a full version of TP2 but you are limited when the S2 is connected to sample decks only for Decks C & D.

It would be good if someone with an S2 can confirm.

idk where you read that. to the contrary, for example the review on digitaldjtips tells you that you can turn C & D into track decks:

so, no restrictions on the software side. there’s nothing in the audio interface that prevents you from mixing 4 decks internally, either. tbh, your claim is a bit absurd.

Not my claim

I read it on djtechtools

See the link I posted above to the DJTT S2 review.

yeah, i can read, too, you already stated that in 3 and got three replies on it. but in #7 you claimed you read a “few interviews that all seem to indicate” so you say there’s more than one source that states it.

Engadget…

“With the S2 you can only use the first two as track decks, for the other two you’re stuck with sample decks.”

"Native Instruments’ decision to allow the S2 to only work with two track decks might jar with some people, but in practice it make some sense. "

More than happy for it not to be the case… I’d just like to know for sure.

I notice Phil mentioned he had a pre-release version of the S2 for his review??

rishi, my tone above might have been a bit harsh. it’s just that i’m so confident that you can use four track decks as i know for a fact (from NI’s website as well as various others) that the S2 ships with a full, unaltered version of TP2.

i think what all those reviews are referring to is the lack of hardware (linefaders, knobs, cue buttons, etc.) in the S2 suitable to control track decks C & D. (actually, you could create a mapping that does just that but there’s no way in the default mapping.) again, maybe an S2 owner has pity with you and confirms this once and for all.

i just bought the S2 to replace my S4

the only limitation with the S2 is the hardware - i find it kinda hard to get used to controlling 2x sample decks with a single knob, but other than that everything is working perfectly, the shift + filter needs some getting used to as the gain knobs are clicky and not smooth, I am quite happy with the transition from the S4 to S2 as I was able to score the S2 at a crazy low price, and i dont need the timecode capabilities of the S4 as I have TSP2 and audio 6 to handle me timecodes

DJZILCH, I am thinking of doing the same switch… so thanks for posting.
Just wondering if you could do something for me. I want to know if you can change the Sample Decks to Track Decks in Preferences. You wont be able to control them with the S2 but I want to know if you can load and play a track. Thanks

rgtb … no probs. Thanks for your honesty.

Ive had my s2 since october, yes it comes with full traktor pro, you have all the features. The decks can be track, line or sample decks and work as expected & output sound
No limitations.

Its odd, even the S2 manual claims that c&d should only be sample decks, and setting them to anything else would be madness and you’d be crazy. But yeah, it is normal traktor pro, everything included

Thanks for clarifying for me Jiggle much appreciated

yes i can confirm that the S2 has all the features in the software

in fact I am using the same S4 software with my S2 - the only difference is in hardware limitations, if you have another spare midi controller to map the remaining controls of the other 2 decks (ie the X1 or the korg nanokontrol for example) that is perfectly doable, no problem at all!
