Sampling/Recording Audio

I’m looking for a program that I can use to edit audio and record audio on my laptop ( ex. record samples from tv, blu-rays, videos on youtube etc.) any suggestions on any apps or software that could do that? I was thinking about getting Audacity, is that safe ( no viruses or malware right)?

Audacity is free and awesome. You do need a separate plug-in though if you’re looking to export into MP3 files.
