Should I wait before upgrading to traktor pro 1.2 ?
Hi,
I browsed lots of forums and topics here and there,
and I see that lots of people are NOT really happy with TPRO since there are still lots of bugs…
I have traktor 3 LE with my vci 100, and it’s OK for now (ok to learn basic DJing) but I want to make my own midi assignations, be able to store cue points for each mp3, and to set the fader to 8% so as to get a more precise pitch tweaking… things that LE doesn’t allow.
I read that TPRO 1.2 update will be released this summer.
should I wait for this update before upgrading, or is it fine to use T pro 1.1.x for now?
I don’t have any work made on files in t3, so the problems to use T3 playlists and collection in TPRO don’t bother me, I’ll start a fresh new collection. in this case, is the id3 tag v2.4 vs 2.3 vs iTunes still a real problem (I like using iTunes to manage my files and tags, and create playlists…)
Well, you can still interface iTunes directly with Traktor Pro, so that will alleviate your problem there for the time being.
I’d say get 1.1.2 (hasn’t been very buggy) and then wait a few weeks for 1.2 to come out so they can release the inevitable 1.2.1 to clean up the bugs from 1.2.
is there no bug with the id3 tags between itunes and Tpro? I read all sort of things about how buggy it was, i.e, Tpro re-writing the tags in v2.4, and iTunes not updating the infos and so loosing the original tags, since iTunes didn’t manage 2.4 really good, and needed to use 2.3 tags, some people saying to make the track folder “non writeable” to avoid unwanted changes…
so far for the buggy bpm detection, key lock function, “time-bomb bug” (tpro crashing after some times djing), and so on…
??
ARE YOU PEOPLE USING TPRO 1,1 WITH PLEASURE AND SAFETY DURING GIGS?
The buggy BPM detection really is that it’s reading the tempo’s at half, usually. I’d say just change the BPM range and you should be okay.
Key lock has never given me up a problem, up to +/- 20%, and I haven’t really gone further.
Time-bomb, well, I can’t say much to that. There are a lot of factors involved, I’m guessing, but I haven’t used TPro for long periods yet. I’m sure I will soon.
The id3 thing is fucking annoying. But I don’t really think it’s something you can blame on TPro as much as iTunes having a shitty time dealing with tags. But you do have the ability to use your iTunes collection IN TPro, playlists and all. So that kind of removes that problem on the short term.
There are always bugs, but all in all I think it’s a solid program. The new functionality, once they get it working, of 1.2 can prove to be really good, especially combined with FW 1.4
I like using my itunes organisation in traktor, but what scares me is that Tpro seems to be obliged to CHANGE id tags to v2.4 when it analyses files… isn’t it? so when files are changed, if I want to modify it in iTunes, changes won’t be saved since I have to change id version back to 2.3 again so as iTunes saves the mods…
anyway, I guess I’ll be ok with that, just have to save the tracks folder on different places…
OK, I’m ready for TPRO. (I was about to purchase a second hand T3 licence, but there are some options in tpro that I want, i,e, midi slave sync, midi modifiers, loop and cue facilities…)
Version of Traktor Pro when it first came out were buggy and people were still sticking with Traktor 3 , However since the last couple of updates lots of users have been moving over to performing with Traktor Pro.
Ok, I had this night a good test of Tpro (4 30min-sessions).
the overall feeling is great, stability seems ok (for only 30 minutes sessions). I like the filters, the brower and gui. The effects look great, but I’m not into effects for now. I like the TSI files and the ability to choose wht to import from a tsi. I like the cover art display. I like the cue parameters and looping tools too.
BUT :
some BASIC things annoy me:
BPM detection and SYNC function don’t seem to be good enough for now, the sync often “desyncs”, the transfer of “master” from 1 deck to the other is strange… anyway I don’t know why but the SYNC option seems less easy and automatic than in T3.
PITCH FADER : the precision is approx the same as in T3 LE, but : in T3LE I was able to adjust the pitch with steps of 0.2% (fader range 10%). it is not really precise, but It was ok to adjust the pitch at 125.00 for example.
in Tpro : with a fader range of 10% the precision is with steps of 0.19%, and with a 8% fader range it is steps of 0.16%. On paper it seems better than T3LE, but the reality is different : you just can’t manually fix the tempo at 125.00. It’s 124.91 or 125.11. That’s all the choice you got. Or use the sync button, but with a sync option that is really less stable and reliable than in traktor 3…
I’ll wait for the 1.2. release. I don’t know if this problems are to be solved, but for me traktor can’t be PRO with such annoying BASIC problems…
NO MANUAL BEATMATCH + UNRELIABLE SYNC OPTION !!! ???
is that PRO ?
Well, I’ll give it more test time, but for now… I prefer traktor 3 !
Any opinions, or tips to solve those BPM/SYNC/PITCH problems?
The pitch fader isn’t a problem with TPro, but with the MIDI output. If there are only 128 steps to go through on a 10% pitch fade, that doesn’t divide evenly along 1000 steps (10% with .01 resolution). When 14-bit MIDI is available on the MIDI controllers, and recognition in TPro then you should be good.
Another option, the one I’ve employed, is using the jog wheel to control pitch. That gives you the accuracy you want.
You can fine tune the BPM detection in the preferences. If most of your music is between 100 and 130 BPM you can set that as the range. Also, TPro has this weird thing with analyzing everything at 1/2 time. So 70BPM is coming up for 140BPM. You can easily fix that just by changing the BPM range.
I’m not sure what you’re problem is with Sync and Master. If you have your Clock setting designated as Auto then it will automatically choose the longest playing deck as Master unless you designate it otherwise. If you decide to Sync the deck that is designated as Master it will come up lit up half way. Once that deck is no longer Master it will Sync to whatever deck is set as Master (wow, that is hard to understand, so if it makes no sense that’s cool, someone else will explain it better, I’m sure).
It’s not that Sync is unreliable, it’s that it’s different. It takes some fiddling but it does make sense.
Another option is to use the outer jog wheel to control the fine pitch, or just to use that to control the pitch, and then make the fader do something else
Reading your answer makes sense, especially for the pitch fader sensitivity (I discover the fact that the VCI100 is really bad in this area) and the master/sync stuff.
As I use traktor pro demo, working from scratch on a middi mapping with the VCI100 is a bit difficult,
I’ll try to use the jogs as a pitch fader, could you explain what parameters do you assign to the different jog parts?
i have been using tPro 1.1.2 since release and i have had 0 issues, pitch is as the others r saying a question of resolution, i have my pitchrange @ 35% and can go in 0.1% steps if i want to, and keylock sounds gr8 to even at full range
about sync and the uses of it: i prefer to sync towards the masterclock and not the other decks, and imo it works better
about craschin, well i have used 1.1.2 at least 2 times each week sy clubs with no issues so its pretty stable, to me at least
bpm is spot on, half of real value from time to time, but just hit the x2 button and ur set
I had some times with the midi mappings and my VCI, and I feel it greatly in Tpro, but I wasn’t able to test the midi assignations in T3 (LE), but the Tpro’s midi facilities seem great for me (ableton midi geek).
I’m already thinking of my own template for 2 decks + farmpadkontrol… (jog browsing, 2*8 cue / loop pads + loop lenght operations, jog pitch + classical jog operations, and classical vci100 fx job) + ability to run my ableton liveset simultaneously (I’m not into midi sync for now between the 2 programs, but that should be OK.
It would be soooo great if Traktor Pro could be rewired to ableton live… I hope a future update will allow this!
…
Think I’m ready for traktor pro after that
I’ll feedback when I’m done!
Thanks a lot for your posts, and long life to DJTT !
