So I’ve got a deposit down on a DDJ-SX and have done for some time now. I’ve been told it will be sometime in March before the shop get them in.
I was also looking at the VCi-400 before laying my deposit down. So my question is should I continue to wait for the DDJ-SX or will the VCi-400 be just as good (or better). Thoughts from people who have tried both would be greatly appreciated.
I think it depends on your choice of software. Serato? Go for sx. Traktor? Go for vci or NI. The controllers are always made with a particular software in mind and I think that makes a difference. Sure you can midi map to your preference but I always want the best that will max me out on the software. Good luck man!
Thanks man. Well I don’t really have a strong preference with software as I have Traktor Pro already but used Serato with my Twitch when I owned one. Both have their plus and negative points. Damn decisions.
I’d say the Pio.
I had a VCI 400 and it ws really good - build quality was excellent, sound card was fine - but the jog mapping in Traktor is just the same as any other controller except NI’s own.
The vid’s of the DDJ-SX using Serato look amazing - I haven’t tried one though so can’t say for sure but it’s the one I’d choose.
well vci 400 will support serato soon too. The only downside prob that you have to pay separate price for the software since it is not bundled with the 400
The buildquality of the SX is actually really good. Knobs is (i think, correct me if im wrong) the same as on the djm 900/850.
However they feel really good, play/cue buttons feels nice (important for me who have a certain “style” of playing).
It’s that really nice clicky response of the buttons. Faders feels like on the better pio mixers. Jogs are small but alot better than cdj 400/350.
if i were using serato i would get it no doubt.
The DDJ-T1 is dropping in price, last I looked it was cheaper than the S4. I think its a great piece of kit. Very solid, well built, nice and big so your not hitting the wrong buttons, jog wheels are considered by many to be better than the S4 (never tried the S4 myself) All the functionality you would need. although I do use an extra controller for mapping all the hotcues and control of the other 2 FX decks, but i think you would have the same limtations on the S4. (Which most consider the industry standard for Traktor and I cant think of many things the S4 can do that the DDJ-t1 can’t) has a similar layout to the CDJ’s so has an extra coolness factor to it. All in all I think its a great, underrated (mainly I think becasue of anti-pioneer bias) and now getting cheaper controller which even for using 4 decks works briliiantly.
