Ableton can do video, I was just messing with it last night, it can’t do video effects but you can quantize it and transpose it to your music. But that means putting work into finding video clips and such when you probably would rather work on your music. At least that’s how I would feel.
whats so embarassing about not playing for 8 people?
^ It was just embarrassing that I went there with a few of my buddies after they heard I didn’t get the gig yet and they saw who they got instead. Two straight up fade back and forth between songs dj’s. But I’m done feeling bad for myself now guys, just trying hard to get into the scene and I’m confident I could do good things ahah. Anyways, I guess I should try to get into the whole using video aspect of DJ’ing, since I see it in more and more clubs. Any good programs for that? Where can I buy music videos
?
Why would them being idiots be the most embarassing day of your life?
Fuck them. Their loss.
kinda like getting turned down for a job at macdonalds
your reply:
I came by the club the other night to check it out and was truly impressed. Because of your comment about needing video I’ve decided to look into doing some VJ’ing but since I really feel I need to be able to provide a strong, quality performance with both video and music I’m not going to rush in to it. If you ever need anything please don’t hesitate to contact me.
p.s.
I’ve attached my latest mix for your listening pleasure.
Or something like that.
^diplomatic impressiveness!
Well you could add in that once the club gets some solid promotion and the DJ’s get better…known that the crowd will surely pick up.
Truth or not, that would probably just piss them off though.
Edit: notice the double space between better and known. ![]()
yeah.. keep your phone handy. chances are once they realize having only vj’s might have been a bad idea, they’re gonna call you first.
The club I currently work at requires that we spin music videos. I get them from DJ pools like 8th wonder, Smash Vidz, and Crooklyn Clan (Monthly fees, download as much as you want!). The pools are real good because guys take every genre you can think of (even trance) and put video to it even if the song never had an “official” music video. If we play a song and don’t have a video we just loop a visual. What sucks is that if we play too many visuals, the manager gets annoyed.
The cons of spinning video are your limited selection, the cost of acquiring the videos vs audio tracks, getting really creative with cues makes the video look like it’s skipping and serato video SL (the only good one to spin video with) is not HD and crashes like crazy. Owners want to show case their 20x 60" flat screen plasmas and they play SD videos. It looks awful.
The pro? Charge double!(and justify that finding good music videos costs twice as much as music even thought you just pay monthly). Or go cheap and get a video program and link it up to a novation launch pad with random clips.
if you have an old vcr to dvd thingamajig you can just run down to a vhs shop and rent some old school films and pop those in. lately we’ve been running 80’s skateboarding videos lol
I use Virtual DJ to run video and it works great for me. I mostly use it during fashion shows, where I can crossfade effects between live video and animations of designer logos, but lately I’ve been plugging into the bigscreen above my head at my residency as well.
I’ve been playing a lot of old skate videos, too!
I’ve also got a few 80s breakdance videos that work great with my oldschool hip-hop sets.
