Sound: Audio 8 vs. Audio 10

I want to buy a soundcard, either Audio 8 or 10.

I imagine Audio 10 should sound better. How much is it better than Audio 8?

the converter chips are what you want.. and I believe they have not changes since… the quality is going to be the same on both

Quality is the same from the audio 2 right through to the audio 10 mate

You do know discontinued doesn’t mean anything regarding timecode?
If you don’t need to use timecode, you can use ANY soundcard. I know several DJ that use studio sound interfaces that are meant for productions as their Traktor soundcards (with X1/F1 controllers or CDJs in HID mode).

Really? Audio 2 has the same AD/DA converter of the Audio 10? Is the signal as strong as Audio 10’s?

Also, is DJM-900’s internal soundcard better than Audio 10 (or 8 or 2 or whatever)?

Another question, why so many djs who don’t use timecode use audio 10?

That is not clear. It appear the older versions of Audio 2 (NI Audio 2 DJ and Traktor Audio 2) did had the same 24-bit/96kHz Cirrus Logic audio converters as the bigger brothers, Audio 4 and 8 at that time.
All I could find regarding tehnical specifications is this:
“studio-grade 24bit/96kHz Cirrus Logic converters and special high-power output amplifiers capable of delivering
a pristine +9.7dBu audio signal.”

But the new version named “Traktor Audio 2 mk2” appears to use lower spec converters:
Audio Converters (Inputs A/D)
Channels (A/D, D/A) 0, 4
Sample Rates 44.1, 48 kHz
Bit Resolution 24-bit
Line Outputs
Maximum Output Level +11.7 dBu
Dynamic Range (A weighted) 103 dB

Cross Talk @ 1 kHz to next channel -105 dB

The signal output is increased (+11.7 dBu compared +9.7dBu) to but it may be just because the mk2 can be externally powered.

For comparison Audio 10 mk2 specs:

I’ve heard only good things for the DJM-900 sound. Please bear in mind that NI Audio card are meant to hooked up to a mixer so the (percieved) final sound quality will depend on the mixer.

Regarding Audio 10 use - because, believe it or not, there aren’t many simple (non studio) audio interfaces with 4 RCA outputs and good drivers on the market.

PS: So is that why people who use Audio 10 also use the Xone:92 mixer? Cus it sounds better than the DJM-900?

This is all speculation, and personal preference. Although I use my Audio 10 with a Xone, doesn’t mean I notice any difference in sound quality when I go to my buddies house who routes his Audio 10 into a DJM 850.
