I did, there aren’t many good ones that I’ve found. Who actually skims pages of amateur producers posting their songs every 5 minutes?
LOL, I’m guessing the same people that do it on soundcloud? ![]()
Nah, much different platforms. I can’t honestly see many people viewing those shit groups on Facebook. I’m a part of a few production/feedback groups which bring good numbers but the second you try to flash your shit you’re booted.
Go on Reddit, find the appropriate subreddit, be honest and sincere: “Hey guys, I’m a producer/DJ and just made this track/remix/mix. Check it out and let me know what you think.” Or something like that. People tend to be supportive in the music subreddits.
I used to hit up Reddit but it’s been a while… I’ll give it another go today.
More on the Mixcloud charts
If you’re smart with your tags, you can get a lot of hits. I’ve had a few mixes get in the top 5 of Lounge, Dark ect charts. It’s hard to score high in things like Techno, EDM, House or Tech House as the competition is fierce and bigger artists all chart high. However it is a great addition, and really makes uploading mixes more fun as well.
I’m also seeing a lot more people upload tracks to Mixcloud as well, since Soundcloud is slowly turning into a joke. I can’t wait until Kim Dotcom’s Baboom site is done. I’m really excited to see how that goes.
Reddit is awesome for finding music, I found pretty much all my future house on /r/shallowhouse.
Also the problem with Soundcloud is not so much a bad management, or them screwing the userbase. It’s just that they simply grew too big. Hosting songs for a few people is doable, after that you will need income (subscriptions). After that even the big media companies will start to notice you, and all of a sudden you have a lot of copyright trouble.
In each step of their growth Soundcloud had to make compromises, simply to be able to sustain their service.
I’ve been hitting it hard the past few days, had some results on Soundcloud.
i’ve checked out some of your stuff mate, for what its worth ![]()
3 sets pinged out of 90+ isn’t too bad for me (2 were house ones, 1 was a chillout mix)
Well thanks for having a listen mate ![]()
I second Reddit, it’s a great community. I frequently post in the Mashup subreddit but there are many more depending on your musical taste.
Any idea when that’ll be ready? I agree that could be brilliant.
So now, after uploading a mix spending some time waiting for it to upload/process, my mixes then spend another hour being processed without you being able to listen to them. Shows up in the stream and everything just saying it’s processing. Soundcloud, piss off.
I wouldn’t blame Soundcloud themselves. They either follow the rules put up by record companies or they get fined/sued/shutdown. I see the point in some of the decisions by big companies that shutdown a torrent because it’s obviously taking away the revenue from the producer/dj, but when they touch my precious legal mixes, I’d be ready to strangle a guy. ![]()
leave it as a private track until it has been processed dude, this happened to me the other day.
I know, I’m just taking the easy way out and blaming them.
I let it upload then walked away, came back after 30 minutes and it was still going… Now I know ![]()
LOL, I just got an email from soundcloud stating a mix I’ve had up since Easter got taken down because a Gladys Knight & The Pips song was in it. I’ve done nothing to edit this mix, replace the file, edit metadata, etc.
Basically, I just intro’d the mix with the intro of a song which apparently samples that Gladys Knight song. They must do periodic checks of all their music since I rarely get 100 listens on any mixes - I’m guessing no one from the label would have listened to it or even objected to it.
C’est la vie…
I think they run a ‘shazam’ type process and removing mixes containing copyrighted tracks, I’ve heard of this happening to quite a few DJ’s, copyright enforcement, it’s gone mad.
Is Soundcloud becoming the wrong place to upload mixes?
Mixcloud is more of a platform for mixes honestly, Soundcloud is more for uploading your tunes. That’s in the perfect world.
