Stop the Popping?

Stop the Popping?

Hello All

I have a HPdm3 Laptop with an AMD Neo X2 1.60GHz and 4gig of RAM running Windows 7 64bit

On said Laptop I am running Traktor Pro 1.2.4 and a NI Audio 2 Soundcard with a M-audio X-Session Pro

Now for my question.

If I take the latency settings any lower than Midi 3ms and Audio 17ms I get a lot of popping and cracking and the CPU Monitor is going crazy up and down.
At the moment I am running the Latencies at 3ms and 32ms with no popping at all but the CPU monitor is still going over the halfway mark

Is this normal?

I was wondering if there is a one hit fix, like a little programme I have on my desktop computer called “Game Booster” that turns off unnecessary stuff whilst I am gaming.

Alternatively, I think I recall a guide I read many moons ago re manually turning stuff off, but cannot seem to locate it?

Hope that made sense

Peace and Ohm

even bigger latency. try going to 25
try keeping the laptop cool if its getting hot too

Do you use Game Booster while your running Traktor? If not you should.

You are on the right track with gamebooster mate. thats all i do before booting up traktor. I ran at around 40ms on the pc with no issues the old story, just bring the latency back till the popping starts then ease it back a little.

he mentioned gamebooster already 'jojo ol buddy ;p

he was saying its good that he has it, but is he using it

Thank you for the help people

Before I had read these replys, I used a latent checker and kept seeing these nasty massive red spikes on the graph with nothing running on the laptop at all.
I then disabled Onboard sound, Wifi and a couple of Bluetooth drivers which have made a massive difference.
I am running at the default medium settings for the Audio 2 and so far so good.
I will get Game Booster going tonight as well as these settings and see how far I can go.

I will let you know

Firstly update Traktor to 1.2.6, but the other thing I would suggest is to make sure you’re using the Audio 2 with ASIO drivers. Windows’ on board sound management is very inefficient.

Yep, I am running the ASIO drivers.

Is it worth updating? I only like to do so if nessecary an if proven bug freeish

yeah. update to 2.6

Quick update people

I run the Game Booster with all the other bits and bobs turned of that I had mentioned, and, it seemed to make no difference whatsoever.

I am playing in a Club in London next weekend, Saturday 6th November with this setup so will let you know how it goes

1.2.6 is the most stable version of Traktor.
You should definitely update.

Gonna check this Gamebooster thing myself. Just got my Desktop PC back up and running so im gonna tackle Traktor on Win for the first time EVER:eek:

Gonna need some advice from you Win boys

win 7 on your pc karlos? i posted today about the new gambooster beta release also Iobit Gamebooster 2 Beta.

I tried game booster…didnt seem much of a difference

Still on XP Service Pack 2 on the Dell.
Might put Win 7 on this week.

Do you guys recommend Win 7 over XP..?

yeah go for win 7 mate.

Cool. will do. Just got my Dell desktop up and running for Ableton and Maschine. Trying to get it fixed up for production purposes.

Ive never done anything musical on PC so im out of my Apple comfort zone.

Might be a big hope but it would be cool (miraculous) that i can get away with just using Gamebooster. Soundcard will be either Presonus FireStudio or Audio8, whatever i get the best results with.

Ill be back for PC advice dude:slight_smile:

i had similar prob with my win7 64x … adjusting the sample rate to 44100 khz helped me out.

Just to let you know Karlos

I am running my setup on my home built desktop with XP sp3 that only has 1gig of RAM and an old P4 processor and have no problems whatsoever.

For me it seems on the Laptop the problem was probably to do with onboard sound and wifi stuff.

DPC Latency checker is a handy tool
