Sub help: 2 Ksub or 1 KW181 ?

Sub help: 2 Ksub or 1 KW181 ?

Trying to decide. Any feedback?

Thanks

in my experience, one big sub always beats 2 little ones…

Hmm I would be interested to hear how they sounded side by side and I’m no expert here. One big sub might sound better and be cheaper, but it would be kind of nice to have two ksubs so you can poll mount each of your speakers on top of them instead of having to use any tripod stands- it would make for a bit of a cleaner setup.

I have the KW 181, it is amazing and never compromises clarity for being an 18. It does feel that it doesn’t get as loud as I need it to be at times (along side my 2 k12s) so if you feel the 2 Ksubs will be louder get those! If not get the Kw 181 for sure

Well that’s the thing. I have no idea. With your experience with the KW181 how do you feel 2 ksubs will sound compared to one kw?

look at the electro voice 18" powered sub…i’ve heard really good things but have never had a chance to test it.

You should describe your application instead of posting “Trying to decide. Any feedback Thanks”… … .. .

KW181 will spank 2 Ksubs, period. Cheaper than 2 Ksubs, much deeper range and if you’re mobile you’ll have less gear to haul. If you’re a bedroom DJ get some K12’s and call it a day.

Well small events like house parties.

Bump… I mostly do small events, house parties.

Edit: Didn’t notice you are using K12’s, do you find they are unsufficient for house parties? Just get a KW181 you won’t regret saving hundreds of dollars and not having to haul TWO lesser subs.

KW18. The k subs will never be able to reproduce even close to the low end the 18 does. I have the KW18, and two HPR 12’s, and I’ve caused noise complaints at the bar I play at.

Thanks guys, I went ahead and placed an order for the KW181, I do house parties and small halls. I’ll see how one sounds, maybe in the future get another one if needed after I hear this bad boy pair’d with the K12’s

Personally I find all speakers insufficient without subs if dancing is the main event. Sure if music is just a background thing but for dance music it is a different experience with a sub.

Yeah, the K12’s on deep mode aren’t bad, but a sub would fill that gap.

Well heres an update…

Got the KW181 returned the Ksub… my my this thing rocks. The KW181 is quaking!!

Curious how do you guys have your KW181 gain knob set? Mine is at about 2o clock anything more, it hits limit, thats when I turn the master on my mixer up to full without hitting red. Great subwoofer!! I think I’m good with one for now lol..

Go with the 18… reason being is that the K-sub is a band-pass cabinet which means that its response isn’t naturally flat, and sounds a little hollow IMO.

Another thing to consider is this… if you plan on buying more subs to do larger rooms you can put direct radiating subs next to each other and they will increase their cumulative output by approx 5db as they reinforce each other… with a band-pass cabinet the dispersion pattern doesn’t allow for the same benefit. Actually, some band-pass cabinets’ dispersion patterns can disturb each other if placed side by side.. so then you’d need a delay processor to electronically correct that phenomenon.

Good info. Yeah with the Ksubs they felt more punchy than hallow. The KW181 sounds so much more boomy.
