lol, just send them classic windows error code messages " Access Denied: the requested action requires elevated privileges"
“Do you have something with a beat” - Midway though a 4 hour house set ![]()
Most people I get ask for either a genre or period in time, like retro or 90’s … to which I reply “I only take artist or song title requests”
99% of the time it stumps them, then they go to grab their phone and I say “without any help” and then I get the head shake and the “I don’t know” and they walk away thinking I’m an a$$hole for making them use their heads.
The 1% that come straight back with an artist or title I will normally try and accommodate.
I would always say I’ll try to work it in unless its something so ridiculous then I say I don’t have that. There is always the 1 douchebag who purposely asks for some obscure crap they know you don’t have just so they can feel better that they have something the DJ, who is supposed to have everything, doesn’t or the girl who stands there and takes it upon herself to have to think of something you can play like you need her help. I did a wedding where this kid kept asking for something I wasn’t going to play and like the aunt or someone came over and scolded me for not playing the song. I told her that I had other requests for the bride and groom that I have to play, that song wouldn’t fit anywhere and I am not a babysitter or here to cater to your children.
yah this must be my all time favorite request…
Or the classic “Can you play something good” …
… And you reply “yeah, I’ll play some Utah Saints for you” ![]()
you wanted the best now you got the best
sorry, i only play shitty music. good music is only played on the 6th friday of the month
Last Sat:
Talk Dirty. Old Derulo. Request denied. I’m sick of the track and so is most of the room
Want To Want Me. New Derulo. Request granted. Floor packs out.
Who Do You Love. Request denied. Just wasn’t in the mood to have “I’m a nigga!” shouted at me continuously through the monitors last night.
Post To Be. Request granted. Same nigga count, but sung nice and sweetly. I can handle that.
Trap Queen. I took a big gulp and played it because of the ladies who requested it. Their enthusiastic dancing made up for the other losses on the floor. Difficult track right now because it does have it’s fans. That’s not most of the room though.
To answer the question how do you handle requests at the club? My answer is…
Selectively.

Wearing a T-shirt that says, “I am not a jukebox” usually works! ![]()
Seriously, when I am brought in to play, I figure they hired me to play my style etc. It is then up to me to know how to read and keep the crowd. Requests don’t work to do that.
“can you play this for me…”
“sure, can you bring me a medium rare steak please”
Prime rib and lobster from keg or better establishment
You young guys: You must develop an immunity to giant tittay being rubbed in your face, do not cave in !
what if she brings me the steak i requested ![]()
Put a ring on it then
Sounds like my ex..
I do mobile gigs and you would be shocked how often you get them coming up leaning over the table in low cut shirts trying to convince you to play a song… Most the time I usually just nod but have plugs in or cans on so don’t even hear but the odd one stands there until you play it… Really though a little cleavage is hardly enough to convince me to put your song on right now…
