Technics 1210’s both tending toward the outside of the record?
Hi there, I recently purchased some vinyl which has multiple tracks on each side, and on the inner track, when I try to cue it up, it jumps back over the ‘black line’ and goes back to the last few beats of the last track.
I then did a complete rejig of my anti-skate, counter weight and tonearm height, yet I still get this problem. I set up all of the above in accordance with the specifications given for my head shells (old Stanton 505’s. need to upgrade.)
Of course I havent ruled out my needles being the problem, though I remember seeing someone talking that this problem can be caused by the screws on the top of the tonearm. I was wondering how to check this as I couldnt find any information on any of the online Technics set-up videos.
If anyone can shed some light, it would be greatly appreciated!

Did you set the anti skate with a blank vinyl? … Place a blank vinyl on the platter and adjust the anti skate until the needle stays put wherever you place it on the spinning vinyl. If you’ve not got a single sided record make sure whatever you use instead is perfectly smooth so your needle doesn’t catch on it and get damaged.
If your anti skate is correct and you can rule out scratched or warped vinyl, I’d say it’s time to invest in new styli.
I wouldn’t go fiddling with the screws unless you know for a fact they’ve been adjusted by some1 already as it’s v.unlikely you’ll be able to get them back to factory settings yourself.
I have managed to mostly fix the problem by levelling my tables with a digital spirit level, and setting the anti-skate on a wax paper ‘record’ i made.
Really considering new needles now because i’m not just playing timecode any more, as these have been on my tables since i bought them second hand and i think he had them on for some time…
I’m hoping for a record clamp with a bubble level for my birthday this year (rock n roll) to carry in my bag.
My decks came with an absolutely filthy pair of Ortofon Pros that had never been cleaned by the looks of them. I was amazed after an overnight soak in some isopropyl alcohol and a couple of cycles in an ultrasonic bath took all the gunk off and cleaned them up like new.
