im new to ableton. i made some experimental songs for class, but want to get into making a real and proper mix (for straight up dancing and not intellectual masturbation) and djing. it would be cool if there were other people who are at the same level as me to talk/chat/webcam/shoot the shit with. im kinda lazy so when its just me by myself with no goals, im less inclined to get to work. we could make ourselves assignments to send each other and give feedback etc.
i know most of you guys are experienced sea dogs, but if you’re like me give me a shout or pm. we can exchange gtalk/skype/soundcloud stuff and other stuff.
music i like: funky techhouse, twisted techno, some minimal, drum&bass, some dubstep, sometimes im alittle gay for house and electro too
If you were not on the other side of the country I would be down! I’m new to it as well, but I haven’t gotten to play with it. However if you wanna get a group together and like Skype it im down!
Can i join in too? I’m new to ableton also and could do with some questions answering and sharing what I have done. I’m looking at Ableton with a view to DJ and also to creat and implment my own sounds within a mix / set. I’m uk based.
ditto. keep me posted. id love to start making my own stuff again (i havnt since i switched to mac and lost my license to FL studio…garage band just doesnt cut it)
is there anyone with experience that can help run us through the basics? cause when i look at Ableton my mood goes from  ->-> →
my buddy showed me this which ive been trying to read a bit thats actually pretty fantastic
so now we just have to decide how to go about this. i was thinking if everyone has gmail we can do our entire thing on gchat (which supports group chat) and google groups to post stuff and have discussions. if you have a better suggestion let me know.
after choosing the platform, we also should decide how often to submit our stuff to each other im thinking maybe bi-weekly or weekly if you want to be ambitious. everyone can take turns deciding what the assignment is (for example, making a dance remix of an oldie song, or mixing two songs with very different bpms, or using the ____ fx extensively in a mix etc etc)
we should introduce ourselves and see where we are in terms of experience, interests, location…maybe instead of this group thing which is great but also costs more effort, we could do a buddysystem … anyway my gtalk is charlottes.wang, skype sn is also the same.
Id love to join this too, my “introduction to DJing” was with ableton 7 a midi keyboard and a knobs/slider controller. Made one tune with it and the councill shut the course down (slags).
Best thing tho, walked out with the full software and my mate got the midi keyboard and bought the mac tower at the councill auction for £300.
I was hoping to find a good tutorial on Slicing Audio to Midi with SAMPELRS instead of Drum Racks. It’s a super cool way to mash up loop, clips what ever. I like it better than doing it to DrumRacks.
I’m down for this when you get the details ironed out. I’m a capable Ableton DJ but a completely novice producer. I’m familiar enough with the software and I can throw tracks together but nothing that would be mistaken for professional work.
