His Steveness just released this, and the potential is amazing. a couple thinking points:

ableton

scratching

x-y pad

iTampon

touchosc will be possible! (basically everything from the appstore)

it is multitouch.. i guess ten finger but there is not much information about this..

and no, no ableton lol : D

I don’t see a reason in the world why this can’t be a Lemur. There’ll be controller apps for this all over the place. Oh, baby.

Why is the bezel so friggin huge, my god I can decorate the boarder of that thing with macaroni shells.

with this and TouchOSC that’s already available, it is a Lemur… with wifi, bluetooth 2.1, with a smaller size, less weight, and more functionality. The only hope for lemur now is to release there software for the iPad honestly, unless Jazzmutant comes up with something greater. Love them to death, but Lemur’s have some serious competition with this thing, and the price hasn’t even been announced yet.

I remember when I firsted posted about this about 2 years ago…everyone on the site was either like, cool or wtf?!

I have to save i’m not that impressed with the device. To me it just seems like a bigger iPhone, which can’t fit in my pocket. I don’t like the idea of walking around with this and accidently dropping it with that big screen. It just hasn’t done anything that iPhone can’t do. I’d say the only jaw dropper that they have left to bank on is the price.

“The iPad is a half-inch thick, weighs 1.5 pounds, and has a 9.7-inch LCD screen. It’s run by a custom-made 1GHz CPU, and comes with 16, 32, or 64GB of flash storage. For connectivity, it has 802.11n, WiFi, and Bluetooth 2.1. Jobs claimed it will get up to 10 hours of battery life.”

Doesnt sound like enough horsepower to me to be able to run Ableton effectively

damn.. i can only imagine mad acclometer use for a filter..

isn’t touchosc basically the same as the lemur software?

Yah, Lemur needs to be already developing an app or they’re toast.

I’m also confused how this is suppose to be in between a computer or your phone. It doesn’t have any sort of cellular network capability so you will need WiFi to have access to online info which basically all these apps require. If i’m at home and I want to check out a video online i’ll either pull out my iphone if i’m on the couch or i’ll go to a computer and watch it.

Yes for control design, but no because of the physics that the Lemur can emulate currently. I’m sure that TouchOSC could do these things with upgrades.

Also forgot to mention that the Lemur has less than 1mb of memory, which is a giant issue. 64gb of storage will make this amazing for all I use my Lemur for.

the iPad will obviously not run your workhourse music apps. as such i think it will just be another controller option to hook up to your current laptop. and thats all good. but overall i am not that impressed. its pretty heavy, storage isn’t all that much either and 10 hours is nice but not mind boggeling.

obviously all the various MIDI/OSC iPhone apps will get expanded to also cover this. will indeed be an awesome addition. hopefully it will network via the dock connector. especially since i am also hoping for a vnc client which will let me dual monitor with screenrecycler. my guess is that Mixxx will be the first DJ software to allow me to move the library browser to a separate monitor.

Sez who? Someone’s going to be an ISP for it. I’m betting he announces Verizon

@Bento keep in mind that this is the 1st gen of the iPad. Ive been hearing for sometime that a updated version will come out that will run OSX and sport a 1.5ghz or larger ARM chip & 2 gig ram.

its going to be killer to use TouchOSC and make your own template. so it gonna be cheaper that getting a full blown lemur for 2k

btw, Nice to see you around Steve!

They didn’t announce it with any connectivity. They said WiFi and bluetooth thats it.

My money’s going to the first whizkid who makes a dedicated 4-deck iPad mixer for Traktor.

holy crap, can’t wait for the price anymore, lol : D

price is gonna be 599.99
