The audio interface in Mixtrack Pro

The Mixtrack pro has 2 RCA outputs of which I’ve used an adapter for and plugged a 3,5 mm plug into. The problem I’m having is bad sound quality and distorting when turning it up. My question now is if its the audio interface in the Mixtrack pro that sucks or if its the adapter that sucks? The sound I’m getting through the cue plugin is, however, working perfectly.

The Mixtrack Pro sound card should be ok quality wise. Not the best, but you shouldn’t be getting noticeably bad quality or distortion.

What cable are you using to connect it, and what speakers are you using?

I’m using a cable I got off my local electronic store to plug my akg dj headphones in.

Headphones go in the front TRS socket, speakers go in the rear RCAs.

What exactly is the problem? Have you tried connecting speakers to the RCA sockets?

I understand that, but when I connect headphones via an adapter to the RCA sockets I get distortion/bad sound. Therefore I assumed it’d probably the same if I plugged in speakers with 3,5 mm via the adapter.

You should never connect headphones to any RCA sockets on any device. They are meant to transmit a line level signal to another device like a mixer/amplifier, and are not suitable for driving headphones.

Makar hit it on the head. And avoid using any adapters if possible. Expecially one that eliminates so much surface area from the contact.

So for best quality, I should connect an amp to the RCA sockets and then speakers to amp?

If you have speakers, they should be connected to the RCA sockets yes.
