There’s no tempo fader on the Native Instruments S8…

Soooo how do you change the tempo?

I’m expecting that it’s some knob or something, and you have to hold shift or something.

Does anyone know specifically how someone will change tempo on the S8?

Most likely hold down SYNC and twist the TEMPO encoder in the middle section like you would on a X1 MK2, I’m trying to get some early info from ze germans since a lot of people are wondering how this is done.

Sync bro who needs faders

Sync.

DVS.

Probably Sync Button + the knob on each deck.

But, really, if you’re beatmatching manually and not using DVS, I’m not sure why it would appeal to you.

I play lots of sets where I transition between songs that are +10bpm apart. I have to slowly increase/decrease the tempo during the song/transition, therefore, tempo fader plz.

A tempo knob would be nice, I’m sure it’s there somewhere. A tempo ENCODER would be even better than a knob! Oooooo…

so you’re stuck at one tempo all night?

He was being sarcastic.

There is a tempo knob right in the middle of the middle section. I would assume this controls the master tempo.
for decks maybe shift and this know?

It’ll definitely be like the X1 mk2, you hold down the sync button and twist the deck encoder and it changes in increments of +/- 0.1. Not sure if you can change how fine it is. Also, if you push the encoder then it jumps your tempo to 0.0.

Surprisingly good method for when you’re trying to get things in the ball park area to then sync them and have them flow smoothly, but it’s completely impractical for manual beatmatching due to the lack of fine tuning and the touch faders have a “throw” effect to them which means if you run your finger across them too fast, it’s like back spinning the CDJ2000’s on the lowest resistance setting.

Yeah…for what you want to do, there’s a big tempo knob in the middle of the mixer.

Agree… I tend to do this a lot lately. I mapped one of the encoders to do this similar to the X1 MK2 by hitting shift on the deck I want to move… pretty effective. If it’s not already mapped, it can be mapped.
I actually like it a little better than a tempo fader… as foreign as it was to me at first.

Yes, isn’t house music 128 bpm?

yeah what’s up with the 128?

If the S8 had a nice long tempo fader, then everything could be 128 lol

It’s the mystical combination of fast and second-exact tempo. How much time does 32 beats of 128 bpm take to play? Exacly 15 seconds.

I find using the encoders on the X1 Mk2 for tempo adjustments to be more fiddly than they’re worth.

If you’re talking about beat-matching, you’re right.
If you’re talking about playing the same tempo all night, you’re wrong.

hey heres something i learned… you can hold down sync and turn the encoder to change the tempo on the X1… haha sometimes you completely overlook the little things!?

Yeah, can adjust them using the Sync button hold method no problem. Main issue I have is the accuracy of trying to beat match dead on with tempos without syncing at all. Give me a proper pitch fader any given day of the week.

That’s what DVS, CDJs, and Vinyl are for.
