Thinking Realistically (Traktor F1)

im thinking of getting one for SSL & Ableton the bridge & maschine on the go controller. Im pretty sure ill pick one up 2nd hand on CL for dirt cheap.

I pre-ordered one from sweetwater. If I like it as much as I think I will. I’ll be buying a second & prob sell my maschine.

How in the hell are Maschine and the F1 at all competing products???

Well, ones a 16 pad controller that controls a sample player, and the other is a 16 pad controller that controls a sample player. Most people don’t realize that Maschine is primarily a DAW component, and see it as a DJ tool.

No, the F1 controls a sample player is about the simplest way possible. Maschine is a sequencer that has a sampler and hosts synthesizers.

They have almost nothing to do with each other.

If the F1 is supposed to appeal to the people who use Maschine as a glorified pad controller with pretty lights, I guess I see the point………

Figured out a way to solve the overpriced problem…wait 3 weeks for the kiddies to try it out, find out how hard it is to make sets containing alot of loops/how little they add to a set if not used correctly.

Seriously, most ppl do not have the energy to have a 100-1000 loop library to pick from.

Then boom 190 or less for this controller in basically brand new condition.

However, reorganizing all my loops in traktor from ableton would suck (alot)

I didn’t pre-order but my F1 is officially en-route

Ding ding ding!

Yep!

to be honest, i’m gonna buy it but i don’t know for shure if i ever gonna use it live. If so, it wil be because you can save you remix decks sets, so if i’m bored i can quickly make one in Traktor.

Let me say this, the F1 isn’t Ableton, no one is going to argue about that. But what the F1 does is allow to have an Ableton-esque work flow. I mainly use Ableton just to launch percussion and drum loops because it’s easier to have everything loaded up and ready to go instead have to browse and load a loop everytime I want to go on to a new one.

But now with the F1 and “remix” decks, I can have 64 loops loaded at once, ready to go at a moments notice ala Ableton. For how I work and perform, it really is going to make life much easier.

I think, to a large extent, the F1 is supposed to appeal to current Traktor users who haven’t delved all the way into Abelton. In other words, if you already use Traktor Scratch or Traktor + a controller, the F1 seems like a cool way to add this capability.

As an S4 user, i just don’t know how practical it is to contemplate buying something that will take up even more space in a DJ booth. I already find it often cramped w/ just the S4. I plan on holding off on copping an F1 just yet.

Totally agree…

…because it’s overly complicated and requires a lot more work than just firing up Traktor.

I get the point of the F1- I’m not going to buy one because I won’t use it any time soon but if I was doing that type of DJing I would probably take it over ableton. Yeah ableton is more versatile and powerful but it is still inferior in a lot of ways when you are looking at it for DJing tracks which the ableton interface really is not suited for, at all. I prefer Traktor for a ton of reasons for the task of DJing, and if I wanted to play loops mixed in between full tracks in a regular DJ workflow I would get an F1 or two, but I don’t.

The Traktor F1 is certainly a nice piece of eye candy but I like most of you am still not convinced that its worth the price tag to just use the remix decks.

However this is another step forward in the future of digital DJing I guess and I really don’t want to be left behind.

Is it the future, or is it some skanky marketing scheme to create useless products and draw away from the true core aspects of Dj’ing for the sake of profit?

I’d say, with the new Mix Decks, NI IS trying to give digital DJs a new and serious tool to work with. And because it is new, it is met with a mix of emotions and attitudes towards it. Some people see potential, others don’t. That is life and absolutely normal.

I personally see a lot of potential and the surface is only being scratched at this point, even with 2.5 and the F1. And, at the least, NI has gotten a lot of people’s eyes turned towards them and have raised a lot of interests, positive and negative. Either way, since people are looking more at them, this new release and tool certainly is good for NI.

As I mentioned, the Mix Decks are a tool and like any tool, as long as the tool is good and serves its purpose well, it only takes some skill, some talent and some practice to become a professional with it. And Ean’s very short video shows someone with skill, talent and a bit of time can use the mix decks to make great sounding, even new dance music, which is the goal of the Mix Decks, I would presume.

I think that 43 seconds of music sounded better than any of the current NI presentation videos. Nice job Ean and I can’t wait to get my MF3Ds and the “bridge” software DJTT is producing for controlling the Mix Decks with the MF3D. I bet NI is steaming. But really, they shouldn’t be.

scamo

And, after watching NI’s new tutorial videos about the F1, I must say, they have put in a lot of thinking into this new tool. A lot of thinking.

scamo

It’s so on the fence nowadays
