Unlimited YoutTube-video-length + DJ mix + gearporn = WIN?

Unlimited YoutTube-video-length + DJ mix + gearporn = WIN?

Since a few days the length of YouTube-videos isn’t limited anymore. During the past year or so I noticed that a lot average joes (at least in my area) rather watch a YT-video than go to SC or anywhere else.

What do you think? Does it make sense to upload whole DJ sets to YT?

To test it I uploaded my latest mix, added some gear porn in the form of a lame stop-motion-video to make it more interesting:

has content of “The orchard Music, WMG, ultra records and INgrooves”. not available in germany :disappointed:

with the restrictions youtube is kinda worthless for promoting a mix i guess..

Ahhhh, the Underground Resistance track!

LoL… Here I was, thinking you would add MFC pictures to it too.

But seriuosly loving the stopmotion!

sweet vid dood. what’s the track from about 19.30?

For your q - I’d probably stick with soundcloud/mixcloud as it’s pretty structured for music. but I guess if you’re desperate for somewhere to up something yt isn’t the worst option

@weltraumpapst: Yeah I got 6 mails from YT because of the tracks their system detected.
The workaround with Google Translate doesn’t work any more.
I’m trying to assemble another URL which works in Germany.

@tekki:
I didn’t want to put the MFC-stamp on everything I do. It’s still a community-effort and not my personal baby (although it needs is diapers changed quite a lot).

@zacl87:
The track around 19.30 is Khainz - Modul8
The mix is on SoundCloud as well. Just wanted to try the new freedom and see how people react.

I know, but you kinda mentioned it in that other thread.

I guess as long as you have every track listed and available as a link to a store where you got it.. then I think its a great idea.

As Im seeing alot of people concerned with piracy… Youtube should set up a system where you have to verify your account so all songs you use can be checked to see if its legal or not. And then make it so your credit card is attached or bank account, and let youtube decide through some magic google technology if the songs are legit. And fine you based on illegal songs.

I think this would be a great way of making new rules for us to follow. Force us to buy every mp3 that we decide to pirate or give away free.
The quality of youtube is good enough from pc speakers… and nothing is more fun than stripping audio off youtube to play later. I dont care who djs the mix or the songs playing.. but it sure is nice for people to put up their mixes. mabey even do something where if a complete tracklist is linked… people can download your whole mix for 99c and then divide it all up to give back to the artists.. and mabey you get 5 cents per download. so every 20 people who buy it you earn a dollar. If your mix is good… than mabey you can afford becks instead of coors light…

you’re joking right?

yes and no

The hipocracy of people pretending to buy 100% of their music in digital form and then pirate them by uploading it is funny. Having youtube as a place to share things would be abused by this longer format. Ive already found incredible hour long college classes being uploaded which students paid alot of money to ultimately be taught the info. Is the school earning money off of this?

As much as I love a free internet, I believe the wild west attitude is something which should carefully examined and acted upon. Either play by the rules or get out the game. But the reality is… DJs are doing it for the passion, not the money.. if that was the case I think it would be a big lol on the money earned in relation to the time and money put in.

But isn’t this rather a problem with the (Anglosaxon) education system? At least, I myself strongly believe that education (and access to information) should be free. And looking at the increasing popularity of open access publication in the academic realm, I probably am not the only one thinking that way.

(Sorry HedgeHog if I derailed your thread here, but this just needed a reply  )

No problem. Triggering conversations is a good thing and what I was aiming for anyways.
This would be the first thread on DJTT in a while to not turn off-topic after the fourth post, but thats the spirit here.

I also believe information should be free… in fact everything should be. We can look at a painting and enjoy it and not have to buy it. If we love it so much we can print it out… no printer will deny you the ink. Are music artists better than paint artists.. It may be apples and oranges, but both fall under 1 category.
Youtube as much money as they earn… should be the one paying off artists who have their work pirated online. Having an even longer format on youtube does have huge advantages for new long format compilations. Im sure it wont be long before hacks are made to trick youtube.. like have25 minutes of some grandma knitting some socks.. and then at the 26th minute a new clip starts with some compression that can disguise itself from recognition software. or Scrambled videos that can be descrambled via some key using encrytion.

Using youtube for dj mixes is probally not as good as using soundcloud. And unless you make a quality video for the whole thing.. a cover jpg on soundcloud will be enough.

I made a quality video, it’s just a little shorter than the mix itself

People doing video-mixes can probably make better use of it, but they’ll run into much more copyright infringements.

Most youtube dj sets are either with a single picture, or a 10 min mini mix for that other DJ site featuring webcam footage of them mixing.

I’m guessing they cannot be bothered by DJ mixes that much.

Or should I bump into the conversation what happened to Ella Skinz and his tutorials?

What happened to him?

Well, I have never found out to be honest. But all I can guess is, that someone found out Ella was using a track of his, and thought Ella did not pay him for it.

His account + tutorials were than taken of youtube, and he had to sell almost everything to pay off some kind of debt.

Than again, I’m not that big a follower of Ella Skinz, so I am not too sure what did happen exactly.
(I was hoping someone could fill me/us in on this)

Side question:

when uploading a mix in .mp3 format, how do you give it just a single image for the duration of the mix? I have never uploaded anything to youtube, and want to be sure what i upload isnt just a blank screen (if that even happens).

EDIT: newbed it up, appears i cant straight upload an mp3  whats the best file type to use?

thanks

also, connect bank account to youtube? youre f*kin crazy :stuck_out_tongue:

Look at these Help-pages completej:

Why not? We pay for everything else… thats how world goes around.
1st off, what individuals do with their own time is their right.
2nd off If you spend time using a service, why shouldnt you pay for it or get paid for what you can legally upload as your own. Whats the difference really to artist making music? Because its music, its more special than video creations?
The whole world does not go out clubbing and therefore do not care about the rampant piracy found with laptop djs. Just like all the people using cracked adobe products to make web pages or working in the print world.

how many people do you think have earned money from advertising on the web using cracked software in some shape or form? From a music blog to a youtube channel or even porn sites. Probally alot.

If your youtube account was linked to your bank account.. it would prevent you from blatantly breaking the law and theoretically bring in money you deserve if you have the rights to. No one wants to be fined for something.. hell we waste all our money on these midi controllers…
I dont think the fines should be super high.. but uploading a music mix without clearence on all tracks makes all those tracks available to anyone who wants to rip them

If youtube had something like 1 penny per minute of video watched… do you think that would be unfair?

Thanks, now I’m on the issue of how to attach an image to a .mov I created from a converted mp3 in Quicktime… any thoughts?

how in the WORLD do you think youtube would correctly distinguish a legally purchased song that i got from a cd two years ago, and an illegal copy?

and then what happens when United Artists feels i ripped off a copy of the song and either 1) charges me $1, from a CD i owned, or 2) fines me and deducts money from my bank account?
