Using a pioneer mixer with traktor pro

Using a pioneer mixer with traktor pro

Hi guys!

In the next few monthes, i’d like to put a pioneer mixer in my setup. Why? I’d like to use the same stuff used in clubs: if I can, i’d like to play on bars/club, and use the stuff they got; But I’ll have to try this stuff before.
And effects on pioneer mixers sonds really cool.

But the thing is, If I want to use a djm-700 (500euros for a used one), I need a soundcard: Audio 8 or 10 for use the 4 channels no?

->But If I want to use it, 1 X1 or 2 would be cool to use effects and loops etc of traktor. (300euros)

→ But in this setup… there is no pitch fader! Sooooo, i’d need 2 cdj!(and CDJ are so expensive!!!)

So, only to use a mixer, i’d be so expensive… or Maybe there is another solution, or something I don’t get? Right now I got a vci-100 arcade and audio 2 dj.

Sounds good, what you could do is buy my 2 x cdj 1000 mk3’s my djm600 black, stand and kam amp and speakers for 1700 and you will be using what they use in the club

You don’t need CDJs. X1s have sync buttons, which are just as good as a pitch fader, right? I mean…they’re at least as good as a MIDI pitch fader regardless of whether you like sync or not.

LOL I dont have 1600 euros yet!! X1 sounds really good but, if i want to make a transition between two tracks 110 bpm and 130… How can I do with just a sync button. And Without jogs i cant adjust the two tracks…

cassius, you can map any midi controller to do whatever you want. you can make an encoder (endless knob) to be just like a jog

yeah I know I can do it, but I think that if knobs are allready asign to something else, it’s maybe there are useful for something else. I didn’t ever used anything else than my VCI 100 and never touched a X1 so I don’t know…

You’ve got it, but consider buying a cheaper mixer if you’re concerned about cash. You can always use the club’s mixer, then all you have to bring is your X1, laptop. and soundcard.

I may be interisted in the 600 if I dont get a denon mixer, how much you after?? send me a PM

Or… turn up to the club with your VCI and audio 2 and rock the mofo house!?

I got a pioneer mixer… the fx are not as good as traktor. It has volume faders and a crossfader, just like your VCI.

Just sayin’

This is all about confidence. I can play on CDJs and a Pioneer mixer, did it for years. I’d choose my VCI SE over that set up anyday.

You will shell out and be like “oh” it doesn’t do that much.

Hire some for the weekend and learn to use them. Save yourself a packet and will demystify

You can map the pitch fader to a knob or even to a couple of buttons for those extreme cases.

right, 1 button for pitch up and one for down

I suggest you listen to some truly good-sounding fx processors and re-evaluate your opinion  also, here’s a lesson I learned a long time ago: don’t rely on fx to spice up your mixes until you’ve mastered the basics.

what about 2 midi fighters and a mixer, doesn’t have to be a pioneer cause your just paying for the brand. you could get a rane or anything, a cheap numark mixer even.
just my 2 cent.

thanks a lot guys!
I’m talking about pioneer because this is the most common setup in clubs and bar I guess, and my goal is to play on those places.
Maybe there effects are not as good as other mixers… I didn’t ever had the luck to play on any mixer.
I’d love to use X1 or Midi fighter but this pitch fader thing scaries me…
(By the way, using a mixer is something like a dream , I started mixing some monthes ago cause I didn’t had the money too for the years before, and now that I have a lil more money I’d like to live this dream )
And by the way x2: You guys must be really better than me, so if you have some time to spend, you can go to my mixcloud and give me advices

I disagree wholeheartedly. Having used a VCI and several mixers, the VCI doesn’t compare. Given that it’s vestax and they also make my favorite-feeling mixers…that doesn’t bode well for anything else. A real mixer feels a lot better to work with. Somehow, it doesn’t seem to matter whether the mixer is analog or digital or whether the controller has the same faders and pots…the mixer just feels better.

But, that’s just me.

You mean like the Pitch + and Pitch - buttons on the default mapping?

I feel you. Even the crappy virtual-dj auto-mix gay bars in atlanta seem to have a DJM-800 just because they think they should.

It’s annoying. As much as I like real mixers, the Pioeers barely count…they feel like toys.

+1 on the pioneers feeling like toys…I just tried out a djm2000 when I was on a trip to a slightly bigger city. The buttons were like mouse clicks and the knobs felt weird to me. I would take my s4 over it which is a bummer becuz I was really thinking about a DJM 900 for a traktor scratch certified mixer. Now I have to look elsewhere.

I think that the new fx processor for the DJM 900 looked pretty good, can’t really say that there aren’t enough options :confused:Just maybe the algorithms aren’t as good as other onboard processors.

Shift + beat controls the pitch fader on a traktor kontrol x1

ok, but it’s buttons no?I think a pot could be ok, but buttons are maybe not very convenient? to change quickly the bpm I think mouse is easier than buttons no?

have you thought about getting an x-session pro, cause you could map faders on there to be your pitch faders

yeah maybe!
Or nano kontrol? (cheaper and really transportable!)
It could be nice! (btw I got a mp25, but I won’t take it to the club, but at home I can use it!)
Do you think some other mixers could be beter choices than djm-700 in my optic (I’d like to begin with mixers and be able to use clubs mixer easily
