Ive just signed up to Mixcloud thanks to Jesc, mentioning there is a free iphone/ipod app available. Now it says there are no upload limits you just have to follow 3 rules. One of them is that the file must be no bigger than 100mb. Now ive been looking thru my mixes on itunes and the ones that are around 68mb are only 128kbs, i have a mix on there that is 256kbs and that file size is 136mb, so do you think if i save them in itunes as 192kbs then it will fall under the 100mb limit? and will that sound quality be good enough for if people download for there ipods etc?
I ran into the same problem. I finally broke down and purchased a slot on soundcloud…it just made it easier that way. It still looks like I’m going to need to upgrade again though since deleting old tracks doesn’t free up space…BS IMO.
If you do 60min mixes at 192CBR you’ll be hovering around 90mb. Any longer and you’ll have to either split up the mix or go down in quality. 192 is good enough for online mixes I’d say, any less and you really start lose a lot of 1’s and 0’s in there
Didn’t free up any space last time I tried. That was the entire reason for my upgrade actually. It continued to say that I was using the same amount of time even after deleting tracks.
Could be wrong. Maybe it was just me. I’ll give it a go again.
I use free soundcloud for my most recent mix and then off load that to a reduced quality file to put on mixcloud when I have a new mix to put on Soundcloud. I use mixcloud as repository for streamable mixes but always let people know that I can give them a better quality file if they want a copy. Seems to work ok.
