Using S4 soundcard to use external mixer

Using S4 soundcard to use external mixer

Preface: I have no idea if this will work. Hopefully you guys will be able to shed some light on this.

So I know that the S4 has a sound card built into it. I have a djm 800 that I want to use with traktor but I am waiting on my Audio 8 to arrive from ebay. Would there be a way to use the s4 as a soundcard in order to make my djm work with traktor?

Sorry if this is a dumb question!

Welcome.

Yeah, just get a phono/rca cable and connect it to the S4 and a channel on the mixer…done.

The S4 has a soundcard inside it. It’s a hybrid of the Audio 4 and the Audio 8. Can I ask why are you buying an Audio 8?
You don’t need one to use timecode, the S4 will work. If you aren’t using timecode then you can just use the S4 anyway.

If I understand OP correctly he wants to utilize the soundcard in the S4 but use the DJM as his mixer. So if i get it correctly he is wondering if the S4 can be used as strictly a soundcard while routing each deck to a channel on the mixer. That would be the biggest tractor soundcard ever.

Ah ok, well I guess he could if he wanted. He could put Traktor into External Mixing mode and assign Deck A to the Master Out and Deck B to the Headphone out. Volume would be controlled on the Master out knob and on the headphone knob (on the front).

The only reason I can see someone wanting to do this is to use the DJM800’s FX on each channel but why you would want to do that is beyond seeing as the FX aren’t any better than Traktors.

Seems like a pointless exercise unless I’m missing something…it is 5am here and I should be in bed:expressionless:

Probably because the OP is switching to a hardware mixer and wants to get used to it before the A8 arrives?

The VU meters and gain control are a huge upgrade on a DJM vs an S4. You can also have the S4 alongside for deck control rather than just using it as a sound card.

This is precisely what I’m doing haha. Sorry for the poor description. How can I get this set up?

RCAs from the Main Out to the 1st channel on the DJM, and a 1/4" stereo TRS to RCA cable from the headphone jack to the 2nd DJM channel.
